How much money Arsenal and Liverpool earn for reaching Champions League last 16

talksport.com, 28 January 2025, 10:48
Arsenal are closing in on a huge financial boost as the League Phase of the Champions League concludes this week.

The Gunners need just a point away at Girona to join Premier League rivals Liverpool in guaranteeing their place in the last 16.

Mikel Arteta's men sit third in the new-look table after five wins from their opening seven European matches and still could finish second.

Even if Arsenal fall to a shock defeat to La Liga side Girona, results elsewhere will likely confirm their spot in the top eight regardless.

Liverpool and Barcelona are the only two sides to have already booked their knockout spot, with Aston Villa hoping to follow.

However, Manchester City will have to make do with a play-off place at best - which could prove a potential financial headache.

Champions League prize money

All 36 clubs in the League Phase have banked €18.62m (£15.6m) for participating, with €2.1m (£1.7m) per win and €700,000 (£587k) per draw.

Each position in the table is worth €275,000 (£230k) - which means the team that finishes second last in 35th claim double that at €550,000 (£461k) through to €9.9m (£8.3m) for the table-toppers.

The top eight will also rake in a €2m (£1.6m) bonus, with clubs finishing ninth to 16th earning €1m (£830k).

The prize money for reaching each knockout round only increases as well, with the outright winners at the Allianz Arena claiming £21.1m.

Performance-related prize money accounts for 37.5 per cent (€914m, £766m) of the overall pot, with UEFA's newly created value pillar taking up 35 per cent to split up broadcast revenue, and the final 27.5 per cent being equalled shared between the 36 clubs.
