Having kicked off their campaign with a 2-0 victory over host nation Qatar on November 20, Gustavo Alfaro's men backed up their opening-day performance as they head group favourites Netherlands to a 1-1 draw five days later.
As for Senegal, they got their quest for a place in the knockout stages back on track last time out when they claimed a 3-1 victory over Qatar courtesy of goals from Boulaye Dia, Famara Diédhiou and Ahmadou Bamba Dieng.
This followed a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Netherlands in their group opener last Monday, when Cody Gakpo and Davy Klaassen scored late goals to hand Oranje a flying start to the campaign.
With at least one of Qatar and Netherlands set to drop points in the other group fixture, a place in the knockout stages remains up for grabs for either Ecuador or Senegal, who have only met once in the past.
Both sides squared off in a friendly contest back in May 2002, when Raul Guerron scored a 69th-minute own goal to hand the reigning Africa Cup of Nations champions a slender victory.
While Tuesday's matchup will be Ecuador's first-ever meeting against an African nation at the World Cup, Aliou Cisse's side are winless in their previous two games against South Americans.
Senegal fell short to Uruguay on penalties in the quarter-finals of the 2002 World Cup, 16 years before Yerry Mina's 74th-minute strike handed Columbia a 1-0 victory against the Lions of Teranga.
