After winning the first four games of the 2021/22 season, Wolfsburg have taken just one point from their previous two outings and suffered a first defeat of the campaign against Hoffenheim on Saturday. Mark van Bommel will be keen to keep the gap between to Bayern Munich at the top of the table as small as possible. Ridle Baku's stunning strike in Sinsheim was the only positive to take from the game, with the Germany international adding goals to his impressive all-round performances from right midfield. With none of the current absentees nearing a return, the Wolves have no pressing need to rotate, but Van Bommel could shuffle things in the final third, with Renato Steffen and Luca Waldschmidt pushing for starts.
While Wolfsburg are threatening to derail, Gladbach are finally on track this season after picking up their second win of the campaign last Saturday. Denis Zakaria scored his second goal of the season to ruin Marco Rose's return to Borussia-Park with Borussia Dortmund in a 1-0 win. It was also a successful weekend with Manu Kone making an impressive full debut, while 18-year-old Luca Netz also shone on the left. Alassane Plea is pushing for a recall after watching Breel Embolo lead the attack against Dortmund, but Ramy Bensebaini is out with a groin injury, with Netz and American youngster Joe Scally set to continue in the wide positions.
