Why ex-Man United target Camavinga joined Real this summer as he scores debut goal

Edouardo Camavinga is one of the hottest prospects in football and he got his Real Madrid career off to the perfect start by scoring in Los Blancos' 5-2 victory over Celta Vigo on Sunday.

The Frenchman came on as a substitute and scored within five minutes of his introduction, netting the last goal of the rout after compatriot Karim Benzema scored a hat-trick and Vinicus Junior also got on the scoresheet.

It's been a remarkable rise for the 18-year-old, who joined the Spanish giants from Rennes for a £37million fee on Deadline Day.

His road to the top has been anything but a smooth path, though.

Born in Angola in 2002, Camavinga grew up in a desperately poor community and two years after his birth his family moved to France in search for a better life.

In 2013, an awful fire burnt down his house and once again his family lost everything.

Camavinga fell in love with football and his incredible talent was clear for all to see, becoming Rennes' youngest ever player in 2019 before achieving the same feat France a year later.

And with great respect for everything Rennes did for him and his family, the teenager decided to leave the club this summer for a very special reason.

Instead of waiting to become a free agent next summer, with a host of clubs - including Manchester United - ready to snap him up, Camavinga sought to help out his boyhood club Rennes by leaving this summer so they pocketed a fee.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano explained the situation on his podcast on Sunday.

"When he communicated to Rennes that he was not going to extend his contract because he was looking for top clubs, he had the opportunity to say I can wait for next summer and pick between English, French, Spanish, German and Italian clubs," he said.

"In the final week after meeting with his family and agents, he said I want to leave right now because I want Rennes to receive money.

"This is what they did and it was an incredible show of love and respect for Rennes by Camavinga and his family.

"Real Madrid accepted to pay €31m straight away plus add-ons. It's an incredible amount for Rennes because he was free agent next summer."

Camavinga's hard working and humble nature has got him to the top at an extraordinarily early age, and he looks set to remain there for many years to come.
