Where Fulham rank in highest-scoring Championship teams amid Mitrovic goal glut

Fulham have been in scintillating form this season.

The Cottagers might have meekly surrendered their Premier League status last season, ending up 11 points from safety. But under Marco Silva they have been transformed into Championship powerhouses - capable of blitzing teams thanks to goals from all over the pitch.

Of course, star striker Aleksandar Mitrovic will hog plenty of headlines - and rightly so.

The Serbian struck the only goal of the game in Saturday's 1-0 win over Hull City. That was his 31st league goal of the season and drew him level with Brentford's Ivan Toney for most goals in a regular Championship season (since the competition was revamped in 2004-05).

But Fulham have been far from reliant on just Mitrovic. That win over Hull not only kept their lead at the top of the Championship to six points, but it also brought up a staggering 78 goals already.

Bournemouth, who are second in the standings, are second in the list with 49 goals.

As well as the obvious aim of clinching an immediate return to the Premier League, Silva's side look a fine bet to also beat the existing record for most team goals in the second tier in the modern era.

Since the Premier League was formed in 1992-93, Manchester City hold the record with a mammoth 108 goals.

That feat was achieved in the 2001-02 campaign with Kevin Keegan's side finishing on 99 points as they lifted the title.

Second on this particular list are Bolton, who notched 100 goals exactly in 1996-97, whilst Reading are third after they fell agonisingly short of a ton of goals.

Steve Coppell's class of 2005-06 hit 99 goals that term, but at least could console themselves with the Championship title.

Fulham's incredible tally has seen them fail to score in just three of their 30 league games.

They have scored five or more goals in a game on five separate occasions too, scoring five against Huddersfield, six against both Bristol City and Birmingham and even racking up 7-0 victories against Blackburn and Reading.

But sometimes the slender wins, like that at Hull, can seem the most important.

Silva admitted: "I'm really pleased for the players and the fans. It was a big win. We started really well and we pushed them back straight away - which was really important.

"I think we controlled most of the situations in the game. But after the first 15 minutes, the game became much more balanced.

"We changed some details at half-time, and then in the second half we started well again.

"We kept good aggression and that was one of the big things to see. I am really happy for the team."

With just 16 games left, and Silva's team in outstanding form, you would not bet against them breaking that Man City record.
