Shocking. A laughing stock. Not fit for purpose.
Tha was the general verdict on VAR after another controversial decision in West Brom's 3-0 win over Southampton on Monday.
Mbaye Diagne thought he had broken the deadlock for the Baggies when he headed past Fraser Forster in the early stages of the Premier League clash at the Hawthorns.
However, the goal was ruled out for offside, with the VAR official Kevin Friend sticking with that decision when the cameras at Stockley Park were unable to get the right angle to conclusively show whether the striker's upper body was on or offside.
That setback did not deter the home side as goals from Matheus Pereira, Matt Phillips and Callum Robinson kept alive their slim survival hopes.
But talkSPORT host Ally McCoist believes VAR's decision to rule out Diagne's goal could come back to haunt West Brom this season - and summed up the feelings of many over the failings of the officials and technology.
He said: "What if they get relegated by a goal? It's a shocking decision! There is no doubt [in the decision], everyone can see it.
"Kyle Bartley is half a yard offside, but Diagne is not offside. It drives me absolutely mental when the linesman does not put the flag up when someone is clearly five yards offside.
"And then you've got him putting the flag up when it's close and he knows that if it is a goal, he'll get an opportunity to get away with it because VAR will correct it.
"He puts his flag, VAR has got an opportunity to correct it and make it a goal… and it doesn't! Come on!"
West Brom boss Sam Allardyce declared VAR is becoming a laughing stock after the match, and called for changes to be made to how it is utilised.
"The reflection on VAR can be done at the end of the season and all parties should have an influential input into how VAR goes forward," he said.
"That needs to be from the PFA, LMA, Premier League and the FA. There are too many of us not being given an opportunity to express how to make it better."
Meanwhile, Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier claims 'common sense' has disappeared from football.
Lee Tissier told talkSPORT: "As most people know, I was a big advocate for VAR, I thought it could be a real enhancement and level up the game in terms of fairness.
"However, there have been numerous occasions where unfortunately the officials have let themselves down.
"Common seems to have gone completely out of the window and you're not allowed to use it any more.
"Any rational thinking person could look at that last night and quite clearly see Diagne wasn't the player who was offside.
"He was clearly onside and the goal should have stood."
