Bremen were 10th after Matchday 7, with a 1-1 draw at Bayer Leverkusen putting the promoted side on nine points. Ole Werner's freescoring team have 13 goals so far, with Füllkrug getting five of them. That puts him second on the Bundesliga scoring chart behind Union Berlin's Sheraldo Becker, although the 29-year-old hasn't scored in his last two games. Bremen will be forced into a defensive change for this one, with summer signing Niklas Stark set to make his first start for the club in place of the suspended Amos Pieper. Fit-again midfielder Jens Stage will also be pushing for a return, with newly capped Austria international Romano Schmid preferred last time out.

Sommer has been in incredible form for Gladbach this season, keeping his third clean sheet of the campaign - and second in succession - in their most recent 3-0 win over RB Leipzig. No goalkeeper has made more saves (44) than the Swiss netminder, with a record-breaking 19 of them coming in the 1-1 draw at Bayern Munich on Matchday 4. French forward Alassane Plea is back in training, meanwhile, but the Foals might go with the same team that impressed against Leipzig. Jonas Hofmann is flying after scoring twice in a victory that left his side sixth in the standings, while recent signing Julian Weigl - another former Borussia Dortmund player - will likely get his third straight start in midfield.

Füllkrug is the leading German goalscorer in this season's Bundesliga and is just one behind Becker in the topscorer's race.

Bremen are unbeaten away - with two wins and two draws - but have only managed one point from three home matches this season.

In May 2021 the Green-Whites were relegated from the Bundesliga for only the second time in their history when Gladbach won 4-2 on their last visit.

After Matchday 7 only Bochum goalkeeper Manuel Riemann had made as many saves as Sommer, who also stopped a penalty in a win over the Czech Republic on international duty.

Hofmann and Marcus Thuram are Gladbach's leading goalscorers this season with three goals each. The French attacker also got three in the DFB Cup first round, however, compared to Hofmann's two.

Gladbach have drawn all three of their away matches in the Bundesliga this season against Schalke (2-2), Bayern (1-1) and Freiburg (0-0).
