Burke added an assist to his two goals as a substitute as Bremen bounced back from defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt with a 2-0 win in Bochum. Although the Scotland international is making all the right noises, head coach Ole Werner seems set on his promotion-winning front two of Marvin Ducksch and Niclas Füllkrug. Ducksch is yet to score in 2022/23, but Füllkrug took his tally to a joint-league-leading five goals with a brace on Matchday 5. Jens Stage dropped to the bench against Bochum, while Leonardo Bittencourt missed out through injury. Romano Schmid and Niklas Schmidt could continue in the midfield duo's stead as eighth-placed Werder chase a third win of the Bundesliga campaign.
Augsburg have only won once - against Bayer Leverkusen on Matchday 2 - whilst losing their other four. Successive defeats to Mainz, Hoffenheim and Hertha Berlin mean Enrico Maaßen's side begin the weekend in 16th place, a point above the automatic relegation zone. Augsburg's new coach has not been helped by a lengthy list of long-term absentees. Question-marks also remain over defender Iago and midfielder Frederik Jensen, who both missed out against Hertha. In more positive news, Berisha enjoyed an encouraging 74-minute debut after joining the club on loan from Fenerbahce on deadline day. The former Germany U21 international should retain his place in attack alongside Ermedin Demirovic, with Ricardo Pepi having left on loan to Groningen.
Match stats
Five goals to start a Bundesliga season is a new personal best for Füllkrug. He scored both his first Bundesliga goal (24 March 2012) and brace (21 October 2017) against Augsburg.
Bremen are the only team this season to have scored at least twice in every Bundesliga game. Only Bayern Munich (13) have found the net more often than the Green-Whites (12) after five matches.
Werder's seven goals from the 86th minute onwards is a Bundesliga record at this stage in a season.
Demirovic is Augsburg's biggest goal threat so far this term, with a goal and assist.
Augsburg have shipped a league-five headers. That's the same number of headed goals scored by Bremen - also a league high.
Eighteen of the 20 Bundesliga meetings between Augsburg and Bremen have produced a winner, including 10 for Die Fuggerstädter.
