Wednesday's MLS predictions including Atlanta United vs. Inter Miami

sportsmole.co.uk, 29 September 2021, 05:10
Toronto vs. Cincinnati (Thursday, 12.00am)

The two bottom sides in the Major League Soccer Eastern Conference table will square off on Thursday, as Toronto welcome FC Cincinnati.

Just one point currently separates the two teams, with the hosts occupying the foot of the table having also played a game more.

We say: Toronto 1-1 FC Cincinnati

While Cincinnati got the better of Toronto in the last meeting, and the hosts' squad has been hit by injuries, they come into the game in better form, and we see that levelling the playing field.

The Reds will be desperate to continue their improvement, and should have enough to avoid another defeat to the fellow strugglers.

Atlanta vs. Inter Miami (Thursday, 12.00am)

Seeking to bounce back from respective defeats last time out, Atlanta United and Inter Miami face off at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Thursday.

With both sides vying for a playoff spot, the game has all the makings of an enthralling affair as the season reaches its final knockings.

We say: Atlanta United 2-1 Inter Miami

The onus is more on Atlanta United to seize the initiative and claim all three points in front of their fans while Inter Miami go in search of a quick response to an embarrassing defeat last time out.

We expect an open and entertaining affair with the home side just edging it by the odd goal come the full-time whistle.

DC United vs. Minnesota Utd (Thursday, 12.30am)

MLS Eastern Conference team DC United will welcome a team from the MLS Western Conference to Audi Field on Thursday with each team aiming to push on to earn a playoff position in their respective leagues.

Minnesota United bring plenty of confidence into this game after securing a victory during their most recent outing, while the hosts have only lost once in their last five matches.

We say: DC United 2-1 Minnesota United

This fixture brings two very strong teams against each other who will have no shortage of confidence and self-belief heading into this game.

However, the attacking style of DC United and their ability to be clinical in front of goal is what could ultimately give them the edge on Thursday.

NY Red Bulls vs. Philadelphia (Thursday, 12.30am)

New York Red Bulls will host Philadelphia Union on Thursday at the Red Bull Arena as they look to extend their current unbeaten run to four games.

The visitors are currently in fourth place and, as they have games in hand on the teams above them, they have the chance to climb the MLS Eastern Conference.

We say: New York Red Bulls 1-2 Philadelphia Union

Both teams are in strong form as of late, which should provide plenty of confidence and momentum for the squads heading into this particular fixture.

With the strength that Philadelphia have in attack, particularly due to the form of Przybylko, the visitors are likely to have the edge in the match.

Montreal vs. New England (Thursday, 12.30am)

CF Montreal are looking to hang onto their narrow lead in the MLS' Eastern Conference playoff race when they host the New England Revolution on Wednesday from Saputo Stadium.

Montreal are in the final postseason position heading into this contest, just a point above Atlanta United after falling 2-1 to the Columbus Crew, while the Revs continue to increase their lead atop the Eastern Conference, after beating Orlando City this weekend by the same score.

We say: CF Montreal 1-2 New England Revolution

Four of the last five matches played between these teams in Montreal were decided by a single goal, and should that trend continue, you have to fancy the Revs to come out on top as they always seem to have a little extra in the tank to pull out three points.

Chicago Fire vs. NY City (Thursday, 1.00am)

Both the Chicago Fire and New York City FC will hope to get back on the scoresheet on Wednesday with a big three points up for grabs when the two sides meet at Soldier Field.

Chicago are now winless in their last five matches following their 0-0 draw with Nashville SC, while the Pigeons dropped the Hudson River Derby on Saturday, 1-0 to the New York Red Bulls.

We say: Chicago Fire 1-4 New York City FC

The Fire did a great job eliminating mistakes while not allowing a potent Nashville team in dangerous areas, but they are facing a New York team who will be in a foul mood after failing to beat their state rivals in both encounters last week and with a top-notch striker eager to score more goals.

Dallas vs. Kansas (Thursday, 1.00am)

After relinquishing first place in the Western Conference on Sunday, Sporting Kansas City will return to MLS action on Wednesday, travelling to Toyota Stadium to meet with Dallas.

A new manager could not change the fortunes of the Toros, who are winless in five straight games after falling 1-0 to the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday, while KC dropped to second in the West following their 2-1 defeat versus the Seattle Sounders.

We say: Dallas 0-2 Sporting Kansas City

KC are one of the top teams in the league for a reason, because they can shake off a loss with a strong performance, and that should be the case on Wednesday when they face a Toros squad who have only scored once in their previous three home fixtures.

Nashville vs. Orlando City (Thursday, 1.30am)

Orlando City travel to the Nissan Stadium on Thursday for their meeting against Nashville SC seeking to avoid a fifth consecutive defeat.

Meanwhile, the home side return to their own patch where they are still yet to lose this term after four consecutive outings on the road.

We say: Nashville SC 2-1 Orlando City

Nashville are the latest team to try to capitalise on Orlando City's struggles and will fancy themselves to come out on top in this one. We are tipping the home team to emerge victorious albeit by only a narrow margin in what should be an absorbing affair.

Houston vs. Vancouver (Thursday, 2.00am)

Houston Dynamo are just one place away from the bottom of the league, and with Austin having two games in hand on them, the need for three points is high on Thursday.

Vancouver Whitecaps have been having a much stronger campaign and they sit just outside of the playoffs, with a victory potentially putting them into that spot.

We say: Houston Dynamo 1-2 Vancouver Whitecaps

Despite the fact that Vancouver Whitecaps have struggled when they have been on the road this season, Thursday could provide them with a great opportunity to get their second victory away from home.

With the momentum of a new manager behind them and a genuine opportunity to take a playoff place, this is not the type of match they can afford to slip up in.

Colorado vs. Austin (Thursday, 2.00am)

Two sides at opposite ends of the MLS Western Conference face each other at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Wednesday night as Colorado Rapids host Austin FC.

The visitors sit in 13th in the Western Conference while the Rapids are third in a comfortable playoff position, despite picking up four draws in their last four games.

We say: Colorado Rapids 2-0 Austin FC

Austin will be on a high after their triumph over LA Galaxy last time out but Colorado should have enough quality to get the three points here and return to winning ways, especially looking to please the home crowd after their back-to-back draws at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.

Salt Lake vs. LA Galaxy (Thursday, 2.30am)

Two sides battling for spots in the top seven of the Major League soccer standings will meet on Thursday, as Real Salt Lake play host to Los Angeles Galaxy.

The hosts currently occupy seventh spot in the Western Conference, while their visitors sit two points better off in fifth place.

We say: Real Salt Lake 1-2 Los Angeles Galaxy

Both sides come into this game looking to correct their form, and this encounter could certainly go either way.

Despite finding themselves in a poor run of form, we back LA Galaxy to end their winless run thanks to their slightly superior quality, as they take on a side with knocked confidence following the thrashing last time out.

Earthquakes vs. Seattle (Thursday, 3.30am)

The San Jose Earthquakes will try to end a 14-match winless run against the Seattle Sounders when they host the Western Conference leaders on Wednesday at PayPal Park.

A 2-0 win in the California Clasico over Los Angeles FC has the Goonies within three points of a playoff berth, while the Sounders picked up a big three points versus Sporting Kansas City to move back into first-place in the West.

We say: San Jose Earthquakes 2-1 Seattle Sounders

This is a tough match to call as both teams are coming off strong performances at the weekend, and both are in some extremely close races, the Quakes for a playoff spot and the Sounders for first in the Conference.

We will give the Goonies a slight edge because they seem to realize that each game could mean their season, while every mistake could be their last, and that kind of desperation could be just what they need to climb above that playoff line.

Los Angeles vs. Portland (Thursday, 3.30am)

Los Angeles FC host Portland Timbers at the Banc of California Stadium on Wednesday evening as coach Bob Bradley looks for his side to enter the MLS playoff spots.

The Black and Gold have lost their last two games, including a 2-0 defeat to San Jose Earthquakes last time out, while the visitors are flying high at the moment after their 6-1 win over Real Salt Lake.

We say: Los Angeles FC 2-1 Portland Timbers

Portland are on a good run of form but with the support of the home crowd for LAFC, we think they will just edge this one as they look to provide a late run for the playoffs.

The matches between the two sides have been historically tight so expect a match that could still go either way.
