Wednesday's Championship predictions including Sheffield United vs. Swansea City

Two sides separated by two points in the top half of the Championship table will square off on Wednesday, as Sheffield United welcome Swansea City to Bramall Lane.

Both sides head into the contest on the back of draws at the weekend, with the hosts sat sixth having not yet tasted defeat in England's second tier this term.

Thanks to their formidable defensive record thus far, one goal may settle Wednesday's contest for Sheffield United, and with an abundance of quality and home advantage on their side, we see them having enough to find a winning goal which eluded them at the weekend.

Preston vs. Watford (Wednesday, 7.45pm)

Preston North End play host to Watford on Wednesday evening looking for the win that they hope moves them outside of the Championship relegation zone.

Meanwhile, Watford make the trip to Deepdale looking to record their fifth victory in eight second-tier fixtures, the Hornets currently sitting in seventh position in the table.

Although both teams have been inconsistent of late, we cannot ignore that Watford got back to winning ways at the weekend. With that in mind, we are backing the Hornets to record another success in the Championship as Cleverley's side look to mount a promotion charge.

Stoke vs. Portsmouth (Wednesday, 7.45pm)

Stoke City will attempt to end a run of three consecutive league defeats when they welcome Portsmouth to the bet365 Stadium on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Pompey are still searching for their first victory of the season after failing to win any of their opening seven Championship matches.

We say: Stoke City 2-1 Portsmouth

Stoke have not faced Portsmouth since 2014, but they have historically fared well in head-to-head home meetings, having won five and drawn two of their previous seven home games against Pompey.

With that in mind, we think the Potters will make full use of home advantage to edge out Portsmouth to clinch the first win of Pelach's tenure.

Bristol City vs. Sheff Weds (Wednesday, 8.00pm)

In search of a second straight victory to leapfrog their hosts in the Championship table, Sheffield Wednesday will travel to Ashton Gate to take on Bristol City on Wednesday.

The visitors ended a five-match winless streak at home to West Bromwich Albion at the weekend, while their hosts took a point from a draw with Swansea City on Sunday.

Sheffield Wednesday will have certainly rebuilt some confidence with the weekend's impressive home win, but they face another tough test with a midweek trip to Ashton Gate and should be content with a point against a Bristol City side hoping to continue their own improvement.
