Stuttgart head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo has had rotten luck on the personnel front so far this season. With star striker Sasa Kalajdzic already a long-term absentee and Silas unavailable, the American lost summer signing Chris Führich to an ankle problem in the 4-1 defeat to Augsburg last weekend. Fellow forward Marmoush sat out his second game in a row, meanwhile, and is touch and go for this one. The Egypt international, on loan at the club from Wolfsburg, was enjoying a run of five starts, comprising a goal and two assists, before picking up a knock. To make matters worse, influential defender and joint-top scorer Mavropanos remains on the sidelines for a VfB team that's recorded only one win in their last nine Bundesliga fixtures.
Thirteenth-placed Stuttgart's malaise notwithstanding, they're still five points better off than second-bottom Bielefeld after 10 rounds of fixtures. With the exception of rock-bottom Greuther Fürth, Arminia are on the longest winless run of any team in the Bundesliga, with their last victory falling away to Stuttgart on the final day of 2020/21. They're also the division's lowest scorers and, like Fürth, the only side still to record a win in this season's Bundesliga. In more positive news, head coach Frank Kramer has a full complement of players to pick from. Patrick Wimmer was a second-half substitute in the 2-1 loss to Mainz, but could be reinstated in midfield at the expense of Robin Hack. Masaya Okugawa may have to settle for a place on the bench once more.
Match stats
Marmoush is averaging a goal or assist every 84 minutes this season with Stuttgart, having also scored his first goal for Egypt in October.
Centre-backs Mavropanos and Marc-Oliver Kempf both have three league goals this term. No defender has more across the division.
The last time Stuttgart beat Arminia in the top flight was the year they won the title (3-2 in 2006/07).
Fabian Klos put Bielefeld 1-0 up in both games against Stuttgart last season.
Arminia have claimed just two points from a possible 12 on the road since winning in Stuttgart on Matchday 34 of last season.
Five points and only six goals scored is Arminia's worst tally from the first 10 matchdays of a Bundesliga season.
