Union's first game of the post-Max Kruse era did not go to plan last week as they slipped to a surprise 2-0 defeat at a struggling Augsburg side. Urs Fischer's charges remain fourth in the table, however, and will be encouraged both by the fact they have not lost back-to-back league games this season, and by their home record against Dortmund in the Bundesliga: played two, won two. They have been deprived of central midfielder Rani Khedira as they bid to continued that trend though, with the 28-year-old suspended for accumulation of yellow cards. Grischa Prömel is set to replace him in what is otherwise a full-strength squad, with Awoniyi and Andreas Voglsammer expected to continue together up front.
There is no such joy on the personnel front for Dortmund, who are without Haaland again due to injury. The absence of the 21-year-old, who has 16 goals in 14 Bundesliga appearances this term, is obviously a big blow, but it presents an opportunity for Thorgan Hazard to stake a claim in the team alongside captain Marco Reus and Donyell Malen up top. Head coach Marco Rose is also without Thomas Meunier and Marius Wolf, so Emre Can could come in at right-back. Gio Reyna made his comeback from injury in BVB's heavy 5-2 defeat at home by Bayer Leverkusen last week, but he is expected to begin on the bench again as he works his way back to full fitness. That result was Dortmund's first league loss of 2022, leaving them nine points adrift of Bayern Munich at the summit, and nine ahead of Union in fourth.

Match stats
Awoniyi is Union's top scorer this term with nine goals from 18 appearances. He also scored in last season's victory over Dortmund.
Christopher Trimmel is in line for his 79th Bundesliga appearance with Die Eisernen, making him the club's outright record appearance holder in the top flight ahead of Marvin Friedrich. He's fourth in all competitions with 254 games.
Union have won both their home meetings with Dortmund in the Bundesliga (2-1 and 3-1). They are yet to claim three home victories against an opponent in the top flight. Conversely, they are the only club BVB have never won away at in the Bundesliga.
Haaland has won all three of his games against Union in the Bundesliga, scoring four times. There's no team he's got more goals against in the German top flight.
Youssoufa Moukoko became the youngest scorer in Bundesliga history at 16 years and 28 days when he struck at the Alte Försterei on 18 December 2020.
BVB have conceded 36 goals already this season, which is their worst return after 21 games since 2007/08. There are 13 teams in the division who have shipped fewer than second-placed Borussia.
