Barcelona are set to travel to the United States next Saturday for a couple of weeks during which they will play four matches, one of them against Real Madrid.
For these games, Xavi Hernandez has put together a list of the players whom he called up. That list does not include those with whom the Barcelona coach spoke at the end of last season to indicate that it was best for them to try their luck elsewhere.
Therefore, Xavi does not count on Samuel Umtiti, Oscar Mingueza, Riqui Puig and Martin Braithwaite, none of whom will travel to the United States.
No agreement was reached for any of the aforementioned four. Umtiti came close to joining Rennes and Monza tried to sign Mingueza, but both deals fell through.
The club is sending a clear message to these players. Xavi does not count on them and if they stay, they will not play next season.
For some of them, as is the case of Braithwaite, the 2022 World Cup is at stake. He is interested in finding a new team because the Denmark coach made it very clear that if he does not play regularly, he will not go to Qatar.
Meanwhile, there are some cases that remain to be defined. One of them is that of Neto, whose future is still up in the air. Another player is Miralem Pjanic, who didn't play under Xavi last year. Pjanic returned to training on July 4.
And then there are the two Dutch players. Barcelona want to sell Frenkie de Jong, as they informed the player in a meeting last Monday.
It remains to be seen how things develop in the next few days. And the same goes for Memphis Depay, who is up for sale and could also leave soon.
However, it is not so clear whether they will join the rest of their teammates in the US tour if there's no news about their future before Saturday.
