The United States women's national team confirmed itself as the big favorite in the CONCACAF qualifiers after a 5-0 win over Jamaica, who escaped a bigger drubbing.
In a game played at the BBVA Bancomer stadium in Monterrey, Mexico and corresponding to date two of Group A, the U.S. team dominated from the start and won with goals from Sophia Smith, in the 5th and 8th minutes, Rose Lavelle (59th), Kristie Mewis (83rd penalty) and Trinity Rodman (86th).
With this result, the U.S. team is the sole leader of the group with 6 points, while Jamaica is left with 3, awaiting the outcome of Mexico and Haiti on Thursday.
Total domination of the USWNT
The nightmare began very soon for the Caribbean team, which in less than 10 minutes had already conceded two goals, both by Smith, the first a great goal, as he got past a defender with a great dribble nside the box he scored with a "three-finger" shot.
Just three minutes later, she received a ball inside the area and managed to touch it in front of the Jamaican goalkeeper, and although the ball was cleared before she had crossed the goal line to make it 2-0.
The U.S. maintained its dominance for the rest of the first half, but the attacking players were not as sharp and Jamaica took advantage of this to save at least two more goals.
The victory was completed in the second half
But those fell in the second half to complete the rout. The third goal came from Rose Lavelle, in the 59th minute, after a play on the left in which the ball came to her feet and she, all alone near the six-yard box, scored with her right foot.
Kristie Mewis added a goal in the 83rd minute from the penalty spot, while Rodman scored the final goal for the U.S., their second of the tournament and before their match against Mexico.
