Atletico Mineiro vs. Emelec (Tuesday, 11.15pm)
Atletico Mineiro and Emelec have it all to play for on Tuesday as both sides square off in the deciding game at Mineirao, following a 1-1 draw in their opening round of 16 clash at the Copa Libertadores.
The Ecuadorians have not progressed beyond this stage of the tournament since 2015, losing out on penalties in 2017 and 2019, while the reigning champions of Brazil managed to hold their nerve in the knockout round of this competition a year ago, defeating Boca Juniors in a shootout, eventually making it all the way to the semi-finals.
We say: Atletico Mineiro 2-0 Emelec
Expect this to be a cagey affair between two well-organised teams, though we believe Galo will have an edge because of their individual quality, along with some of the most creative midfielders in South America.
Boca Juniors vs. Corinthians (Wednesday, 1.30am)
A spot in the quarter-finals of the Copa Libertadores is there for the taking as Boca Juniors host Corinthians on Tuesday in the second leg of the knockout stage.
Neither side managed a breakthrough last week in what was the third meeting between these teams at this season's competition.
We say: Boca Juniors 1-0 Corinthians
While this may not be the best Boca Juniors side that we have ever seen, we believe past experiences will be a factor in this game, something that the Argentines should be able to use to their advantage against the Brazilians.
Corinthians have not been particularly sharp in the attacking third away from home, and they may struggle with their rhythm with so many players who are not 100%.
Libertad vs. Athletico PR (Wednesday, 1.30am)
Club Libertad head into the second leg of their round of 16 tie against Athletico Paranaense in need of a win to have any hope of advancing into the last eight of the Copa Libertadores, after dropping the opening match in Curitiba, 2-1.
The Paraguayan champions have not lost an encounter at Estadio Tigo La Huerta in this year's tournament, defeating Furacao 1-0 at home in the group stage.
We say: Club Libertad 2-1 Athletico Paranaense (Athletico Paranaense win on penalties)
There are plenty of valid reasons that might suggest each of these sides have an equal chance of capturing this encounter, making it an extremely tough match to call.
It seems therefore like the only viable solution to settle this tie is to leave it up to chance, and cruel as it may be, we expect Paranaense to show a little more composure in what promises to be a tense encounter.
