Tuchel insists he won't take Liverpool approach to Chelsea's fixture congestion

Chelsea will jet off to the Club World Cup next year which will test their resources but Thomas Tuchel will not be sacrificing any competition as he eyes more silverware

Thomas Tuchel's Chelsea side will not turn their back on any competition as they deal with a fixture pile-up ahead of the Club World Cup.

The Blues will head to Abu Dhabi in February to battle it out with champions of the other continents.

It means, across the season, they are competing on five fronts, with their trip across the world included.

Chelsea are aiming to win a first Premier League crown since 2017, win the two domestic cups and attempt to defend their Champions League title.

They have drawn Lille in the last 16 and the trip to the UAE in February is, from a fixture congestion point of view, not ideal.

Liverpool opted to field an U23s team when they struggled to accommodate cup commitments and the Club World Cup back in 2019.

Jurgen Klopp, who has often taken issue with the fixture pile-up, saw his team drawn to face Aston Villa one day before they were due to play in Qatar.

Tuchel though will not follow suit and is determined to continue fighting on all fronts.

"I think they [Liverpool] did because they played one day later in Qatar," he said.

"I think they would not have sacrificed it if they had three or four days in between, they would have tried to find solutions.

"But no, we will never do this because if we think we need to rest players or give players a chance to play, like it's a tradition in the Carabao Cup, then we will do it but we will always prepare to win the match.

"This is the spirit we have to keep going.

"It is a struggle, of course it is a struggle and it feels very demanding, I can assure you of that. For everybody, the staff and the players but we will push through and pursue it, there is no other option.

"We love to be in these competitions and we want to stay in them. We want to arrive in March, April or May in these competitions. So no, we don't start judging games and the value for those games."

Chelsea will face Chesterfield in the third round of the FA Cup and take on west London rivals Brentford in the Carabao Cup.

In the league, following an impressive start, Tuchel has seen his side drop points recently, the latest of which came in a draw with Everton.

They recently came unstuck in a London derby with West Ham and also draw at Stamford Bridge with Burnley and Manchester United.
