Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has thanked Jose Mourinho after relieving him of his duties as Spurs boss.
And the Spurs supremo admitted that he regrets things not working out as planned for the Portuguese at the club.
Mourinho was sacked on Monday morning, with Spurs seventh in the Premier League and their Champions League hopes looking remote.
In a statement, Levy said: "Jose and his coaching staff have been with us through some of our most challenging times as a Club.
"Jose is a true professional who showed enormous resilience during the pandemic.
"On a personal level I have enjoyed working with him and regret that things have not worked out as we both had envisaged.
"He will always be welcome here and we should like to thank him and his coaching staff for their contribution."
Also departing the North London club are members of Mourinho's coaching staff: Joao Sacramento, Nuno Santos, Carlos Lalin and Giovanni Cerra have been relieved of their duties.
Ryan Mason will take first-team training on Monday and is expected to be in caretaker charge, alongside Chris Powell, for this week's Premier League meeting with Southampton and Sunday's Carabao Cup Final against Manchester City at Wembley.
It's understood Spurs stars weren't told anything until Monday morning - when they found out that training was delayed until the afternoon.
Mourinho, 58, has paid the price for a disappointing campaign, with Spurs currently seventh in the Premier League and with little chance of making the top four.
His exit has also denied him the chance of delivering a first piece of silverware to the club in 13 years on Sunday.
