Tielemans makes honest contract talks admission as United and Liverpool circle

Youri Tielemans reveals he is keeping his options open as Leicester try to tie the midfielder down to a new contract.

The Belgium star, 24, has less than two years left on his current deal and numerous clubs are interested in signing him.

Manchester United and Liverpool have both been linked with Tielemans, while Barcelona and Real Madrid are also thought to be keen.

After joining from Monaco for £35million in 2019, the maestro has played a key role in two consecutive fifth-place finishes and scored the winner in Leicester's historic FA Cup final victory over Chelsea earlier this year.

It's no wonder the Foxes want to keep him, but Tielemans admits that is no certainty as talks over a new contract continue to drag on.

"There's no update really. I'm open to everything. The transfer market has just closed, but I want to keep as many options as I can open," he told Sky Sports.

"As long as I'm here I will give everything for the club. I've already done so, but I will do so even more. The contract situation is just something that is going on in football, it's a normal situation.

"There are talks going on - I'm not saying I'm going to sign, I'm not saying I'm not going to sign. We will see."

Addressing speculation surrounding Tielemans in the summer, Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers made no secret of his desire to keep the star man.

He said: "I hope we can have him for longer. Jon (Rudkin, director of football) is meeting with his representatives.

"He is a top-class professional, a great guy and someone I love working with. He is very focused on his football and doesn't get sidetracked at all. As I have said before, I will give him everything to help him continuously improve and he will continue to give us everything too.

"For me and Youri, it just continues - our relationship. Hopefully, we can resolve something in the future."
