Should Andriy Lunin try his luck elsewhere ahead of next season in search of playing time, Real Madrid are expected to move for a goalkeeper who will serve as Thibaut Courtois' backup.
Napoli's David Ospina has emerged as a potential transfer target in the event Los Blancos are willing to move for an experienced shot-stopper.
However, Real Madrid could decide to sign a talented young goalkeeper, which is the case of Chicago Fire's Gabriel Slonina.
Born in the United States to Polish parents, Slonina has attracted interest from various European clubs such as Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Despite his 18 years of age, the youngster already has experience in the MLS. In August 2021, Slonina became the youngster goalkeeper to ever start an MLS match at the age of 17 years and 81 days.
Committed to the USA
Although Poland named him to their UEFA Nations League squad earlier in May, Slonina decided to commit his international future to the USMNT.
"My heart is American," Slonina wrote on Instagram.
"This country has given me and my family all the opportunities I could ask for. It's pushed me and supported me through good and bad.
"I understand the privilege of wearing the badge, and the only time I'll put my head down is to kiss it. America is home and that's who I'm going to represent."
In an interview for 90min back in November, Slonina revealed that he looks up to goalkeepers such as Manchester City's Ederson and Chelsea's Edouard Mendy.
