Shoya Nakajima made his debut for Antalyaspor after recently signing for the Turkish club, and in the league match against Adana Demirspor, everything was ready for him to play his first minutes for his new club, but it didn't go to plan.
It was the 59th minute and Antalyaspor were losing 1-0 at home when Nakajima entered the field to the joyful gaze of his family in the stands.
What was supposed to be a moment of joy turned to drama in just 20 seconds.
Nakajima put pressure on the opposition defence, who were trying to get the ball out from the back, until he threw his feet forward to cut out the pass to the right-back, but he misjudged the tackle and was too late.
The referee awarded a foul and showed him a yellow card, to Nakajima's ironic smile.
Just as play seemed to be resuming the VAR called the referee to review the play and, after seeing it on the monitor, the referee decided that the tackle had been worse than it appeared and changed his decision to finally give Nakajima a straight red.
Nakajima, to his surprise, had to leave the field after just 20 seconds, while his mother in the stands was in tears.
The final score was a 3-0 defeat, and perhaps the most bitter debut possible for a footballer.
