The 2021/22 Bundesliga season in numbers

Bayern Munich and Robert Lewandowski were record breakers again in 2021/22, but who else passed significant Bundesliga milestones over the course of the campaign?

1 - Arminia Bielefeld's Andres Andrade became the first player from Panama to play in the Bundesliga when he made his debut for the club on Matchday 5. Meanwhile, winter Hertha Berlin signing Dongjun Lee became the first South Korean to feature for the club.

1.3 - According to xG, Niklas Dorsch (on Matchday 15 vs. Cologne) and Kingsley Coman (matchday 27 vs. Union Berlin) scored the least likely goals in the league this term, with goal probabilities of 1.3 percent.

3 - Robert Lewandowski scored more than 30 goals in a single Bundesliga season for the third year in a row - a new record.

4 - Mainz went four home games in a row without conceding a goal from matchday 14 to 21, setting a new club record in the Bundesliga.

4 - Patrik Schick became the first Bayer Leverkusen player and the first Czech to score four times in a single Bundesliga match when he hit four against Greuther Fürth on Matchday 14.

5 - Lewandowski was top scorer in the Bundesliga for the fifth time in a row - another new record to add to his collection.

5 - VfB Stuttgart suffered their joint-heaviest home defeat in the top-flight when they were beaten 5-0 by Bayern on Matchday 16. They were also hit for five by Dortmund in 1996.

5 - Wolfsburg went from suffering their highest half-time deficit (5-0) in Dortmund on Matchday 30 to establishing their record first-half lead a week later when they led Mainz 5-0 at the break.

6 - Freiburg's 6-0 advantage over Borussia Mönchengladbach on Matchday 14 was not only their record half-time score, but the same final score was also the biggest win in the club's Bundesliga history.

6 - RB Leipzig's 6-1 wins over Hertha and Greuther are the club's highest away victories in their top-flight history.

7 - Lewandowski was top scorer in the Bundesliga for a seventh time, matching Gerd Müller's Torjägerkanone record haul.

7 - Having done the double over Dortmund this term, Bayern have now claimed Der Klassiker spoils in each of the previous seven meetings - a new record winning streak in the fixture's history.

7 - Bayern's 7-0 win over Bochum on Matchday 5 was the biggest win of the season and also VfL's heaviest ever Bundesliga defeat.

7 - Leverkusen celebrated the largest home win in their history by beating Fürth 7-1 on Matchday 14.

8 - Hoffenheim have now beaten Cologne in each of their last eight fixtures.

9 - The season's highest-scoring match saw Hoffenheim beat Fürth 6-3 on Matchday 13 - the first time there has been nine goals scored in a single Bundesliga game since Wolfsburg beat Augsburg 8-1 in May 2019.

9 - Branimir Hrgota is Fürth's new record single-season scorer in the Bundesliga with nine goals.

10 - Bayern were crowned champions for the 10th time in a row, setting a new record in Europe's top-five leagues for the most successive top-flight titles.

10 - For the first time in the club's history, Freiburg went unbeaten across the first 10 Bundesliga matchdays of a campaign (W6, D4).

11 - Michael Gregoritsch climbed off the bench on the final day to score Augsburg's 11th goal of the campaign by a substitute - a new single season club record.

11 - Thomas Müller got his hands on the Meisterschale for the 11th time and the Germany international has now won the Bundesliga more times than any other player.

12 - Julian Brandt scored the earliest goal as a substitute in Bundesliga history by finding the back of the net after just 12 minutes against Stuttgart on Matchday 29.

13 - Florian Wirtz scored 13 times this season and he is the first U19 player in Bundesliga history to score more than 10 times in a season.

13 - Lewandowski scored in his 13th Bundesliga home game in a row when he got on the scoresheet against Bochum on Matchday 5, setting yet another league new record.

14 - Mats Hummels has now scored at least once in 14 consecutive Bundesliga seasons, which is a longer streak than any other active player and the best since Torsten Frings did the same from 1997 to 2011.

14 - Wolfsburg had gone 848 minutes (more than 14 hours) without scoring against Dortmund until Wout Weghorst's goal on Matchday 13 that ended the longest goalless streak in Bundesliga history.

15 - On Matchday 6 in Fürth, Lewandowski failed to score for the first time in 15 Bundesliga games, narrowly missing out on Müller's record 16 game stretch in 1969/70.

14 - Alexander Schwolow made 14 saves against Bayern on matchday 21 - a new personal best that was more than any other goalkeeper made across the entire campaign.

16 - Paul Wanner became the first 16-year-old to win the German title and Bayern's youngest ever player, while Hoffenheim (Tom Bischof), Leipzig (Sidney Raebiger) and Leverkusen (Iker Bravo, Zidan Sertdemir) all fielded 16-year-olds for the first time.

16 - Union Berlin's 16 wins this season is a new club record in a Bundesliga campaign.

16 - Freiburg also set a new club record in a single Bundesliga season, this time for headed goals (16).

17 - Dortmund's Tom Rothe became the youngest player in Bundesliga history to score on his Bundesliga debut when he struck against Wolfsburg (17 years, 169 days).

17 - Benjamin Hübner was Hoffenheim's 17th different goalscorer this season - a new club record for TSG.

18 - Meanwhile, Leverkusen set their own club record with 18 separate scorers.

18 - Burak Ince became Bielefeld's youngest Bundesliga player when he made his debut on Matchday 26, just 52 days after his 18th birthday.

18 - Thomas Müller's 18 assists saw him top the league charts for provisions for a third season on the bounce and his 13 across the first half of the season set a new Hinrunde record.

18 - A total of 18 teenagers scored at least once in the 2021/22 Bundesliga season, the most in a top-flight season.

19 - Felix Passlack became the 19th different goalscorer for Dortmund by scoring on Matchday 33 to establish a new club record that is just one behind the top-flight best of Werder Bremen's 20 scorers in 2007/08.

19 - Lewandowski set a new Bundesliga record for most away goals in one season (19) and the Pole extended his historical record for most strikes by a single player on their travels to 128.

20 - Taiwo Awoniyi is Union's record top-flight goalscorer with 20, overtaking Max Kruse, who left for Wolfsburg in January. Awoniyi is also the first Union player to score 15 goals in a single top-flight season.

22 - Leverkusen took their unbeaten run against Augsburg to 22 matches (W15, D7) and that is now the longest sequence without defeat in Bundesliga history.

23 - Greuther finally celebrated their first home win in the top-tier by beating Union 1-0 on Matchday 15, ending their 23-game wait for a victory D5, L18).

24 - Schick is only the second Leverkusen player to score 24 goals in a single Bundesliga season and he finished up just one back from Stefan Kießling's club record of 25 strikes in 2012/13.

24 - Freiburg scored 24 times from set pieces - a number greater than any other side in 2021/22 and one that matches their club best of 1994/95.

24 - There were only 24 red cards last season - the fewest in a Bundesliga season since two bookings led to a sending off in 1991.

27 - Hrgota's 27 second strike in the win over Hertha on Matchday 22 was Fürth's fastest in the top-flight and the league's quickest of the season.

27.5 - Hoffenheim started Matchday 32 with the oldest starting XI in their Bundesliga history (27.5 years).

27.8 - Leipzig also started Matchday 33 with their oldest-ever starting XI (27.8 years).

30.1 - Union top the trio having named their oldest Bundesliga team on Matchday 19 (30.1 years)

31 - Bayern became champions for the 31st time in Bundesliga history - a German top-flight record.

31 - Gladbach had 31 shots on goal against Stuttgart on Matchday 8 - the most of any team in 2021/22.

33 - Nils Petersen scored a 33rd goal as a substitute in his Bundesliga career on Matchday 29 against Eintracht Frankfurt, further extending his league record.

35 - Lewandowski scored 35 goals this season, a return only ever bettered by Gerd Müller and Lewandowski himself.

35 - Mainz collected 35 points at home - more than ever before.

35 - Nick Proschwitz (35 years, 167 days) became Hoffenheim's oldest ever outfield player in the Bundesliga when he came on as a final day substitute.

36 - Hertha fielded 36 different players, Stuttgart 34 and Borussia Dortmund 33 - club records for all three.

36 - Philipp Tschauner became Leipzig's oldest Bundesliga player with his appearance on Matchday 33.

36 - Mainz have converted all 36 of their Bundesliga penalties since May 2013 - a current league record.

36.6 - Jeremiah St. Juste clocked in with a top speed of 22.7 mph - a new Bundesliga record since this data was collected in 2011.

37 - BVB set a new club record for scoring in the most consecutive Bundesliga matches by finding the target for a 37th game on the spin against Union on Matchday 5.

41 - The highest scoring matchday of the season came on week 14 when it rained 41 goals. Only once this millennium have there been more on a single Bundesliga matchday - MD 34 in 2001/02 (44).

43 - Andre Silva scored his 43rd Bundesliga goal on Matchday 13 to become the highest scoring Portuguese player in Bundesliga history. He added eight more to his tally before the end of the season and now has 51.

43 - Lewandowski scored 43 times in 34 games across the 2021 calendar year 2021, setting a new Bundesliga record by beating Gerd Müller's previous best of 42 in 1972.

45 - Gladbach and Leverkusen shared a total of 45 shots on Matchday 19, the highest such figure of any game in 2021/22.

49 - Bayern scored 49 away goals last season, setting a new Bundesliga record and beating their previous best of 47 in 2019/20.

50 - Erling Haaland scored his 50th goal in his 50th Bundesliga game on Matchday 13, becoming both the fastest and youngest player in history to reach their half century.

50 - On Matchday 16, Wirtz became the youngest player to 50 Bundesliga games (18 years and 226 days), replacing Gio Reyna who had only claimed the record on the second week of the season.
