Tammy Abraham's stance on Man Utd or Arsenal transfer as clause complicates deal

Manchester United and Arsenal are both in the hunt for England striker Tammy Abraham, who finished last season as top scorer for Jose Mourinho's Roma side with 27 goals Abraham made the most recent England squad off the back of his Roma form

Roma striker Tammy Abraham is said to be happy in Italy, despite reported interest from Manchester United and Arsenal.

The England international finished his first season in the Italian capital with 27 goals, 17 of them coming in Serie A. Just three players - Ciro Immobile, Dusan Vlahovic and Lautaro Martinez - bettered the former Chelsea frontman in the league.

Interest in the 24-year-old might seem unsurprising considering his goalscoring exploits. However, manager Jose Mourinho is keen to keep the striker around, while a clause in Abraham's contract could make things even more complicated for the English sides.

According to Corriere dello Sport (via Football Italia), Abraham's happiness in Rome isn't the only thing which makes a stay at the Stadio Olimpico the most likely outcome. Additionally, his agent Neil Fewings will reportedly earn more the longer the striker stays with the Giallorossi - specifically, €400,000 for each transfer window which closes with Abraham staying put.

And then there's the contract clause, installed when the former Aston Villa loanee arrived from Chelsea. In the summer of 2023, the Blues will be able to bring Abraham back to Stamford Bridge with a bid of €80m (£69m) - double the amount they received for the England frontman.

Abraham was Chelsea's top goalscorer in his first full season in the Blues' first-team, scoring 15 times in the Premier League in 2019-20. However, after falling out of favour under Thomas Tuchel, he joined Roma on a five-year deal last summer.

In addition to his 17 Serie A goals, Abraham found the net nine times in the Europa Conference League. Feyenoord forward Cyriel Dessers was the only man to score more, and it was Abraham who came out on top in the final thanks to Nicolo Zaniolo's winner for Roma in Tirana.

The triumph saw Abraham deliver on one of the goals he set upon moving to Italy, and he said as much after the game. "One thing I said when I came here was I was going to help the team get to the final and one day I want to win a trophy. In my first season I have achieved that," Abraham told BT Sport.

"Credit to my team-mates, excellent performances. We deserve it. We have worked hard all year. I love them (the fans). From day one I came here it has been the best. We are champions, I am happy to be a part of the team, now it is time to celebrate and enjoy.

"Even when I first came to the club it had been a long time since they won a trophy, you can hear the fans. We knew how much it was going to mean, you can see we've got some of the best fans."
