Suarez claims he's had multiple approaches as move to Premier League on cards

Luis Suarez wants to remain playing in Europe despite approaches from South America as he plots his next move.

The Atletico Madrid forward is out of contract at the Wanda Metropolitano and will not be short of offers, despite being 35. Players do often return to their homelands to see out the final years of their career, but Suarez claims he wants to operate at a "top competitive level".

He moved to Europe back in 2006 and has played starring roles for Liverpool, Barcelona and Atletico - winning league titles with the latter pair. Last term he made 45 appearances for Diego Simeone at Atletico, scoring on 13 occasions to underline his importance.

Atletico finished the LaLiga season in third, beating Real Sociedad in their final outing of the season. Suarez is yet to decide on his next move though. He told El Larguero : "I swear I don't (know). Trust me, I've not decided where I'm gonna play next season. I've received are many options, many proposals... I am lucky to make the decision, I listen to everyone, but when the time comes we will make the decision.

"Clubs from Argentina, Brazil and Mexico approached me but I want to play at top competitive level again. I'm focused on European football. I have my head in Europe. Spain? Obviously I left a great legacy here, I'm very proud of the career I've had here. I have received some... proposals from here, but I am still analysing them. I want to see the project of being able to compete at a high level."

Suarez did claim that he was told of his exit rather abruptly and without warning. He added: "Rafa Alique (Atletico director of communications) told me the day before my farewell, that they were going to give me a farewell. I did not know anything. I am 35 years old and I was also thinking about my future.

"We had a meeting with the club in December, we agreed to talk in February, and Alique told me that they were going to give me a farewell and I said, 'well, at least someone from the club tells me something'. He too was supposedly surprised."

Aston Villa have been touted as a potential destination for Suarez. A move to the Midlands would see him link up with Steven Gerrard, his former teammate at Anfield. He would also play alongside Philippe Coutinho once more were he to head to Villa Park. Turkish side Fenerbahce has also expressed their interest in the Uruguayan forward.
