With the January transfer window on the horizon and Liverpool's injury list growing, it comes as no surprise to see that the Reds may be set for a busy few months of negotiations.
The African Cup of Nations means that the Anfield outfit will be without Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Naby Keita for the first month of 2022.
The club received the boost of Harvey Elliott returning to training a few days ago, providing some much-needed depth in the final third.
However, although an exciting talent, the young Englishman won't be able to solve all of Jurgen Klopp's woes.
Here Mirror Football take a look at all of the transfer gossip circulating around the red half of Anfield ahead of January…
Sterling keen on return
Wantaway Manchester City star Raheem Sterling appeared to be Barcelona-bound according to reports, but the winger may have had a change of heart.
According to Spanish news outlet El Nacional, the 26-year-old would prefer to move back to Liverpool and work under the management of Klopp.
Sterling left the Reds in 2015 after refusing several contract offers that would keep him at Anfield on a better wage, but the Englishman instead sought a move to City.
The report goes on the state that the Etihad Stadium are unlikely to negotiate with Liverpool as they are a direct rival and are only considering offers from abroad.
Zakarai contract situation catching Klopp's eye
Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria is out of contract at the end of the season and it is reported that the Reds are considering signing him if they can fight off interest from City.
Calciomercato says that Klopp is keen on bringing the Swiss international to Anfield as soon as January because Gladbach want to receive a fee for their player rather than losing him for nothing.
Zakaria, 24, has been linked with a move to the Premier League for several seasons and it appears the defensive-minded midfielder may finally get his move as the Bundesliga outfit have been forced into a lose-lose situation.
Juve are also looking into signing the former Young Boys player and aren't put off by the interest of the two English clubs.
Reds interested in Tchouameni
Who should Liverpool sign in the January transfer window? Comment below
AS Monaco's Aurelien Tchouameni is the name on the lips of all top teams in Europe at the moment, and Liverpool are no exception.
The Reds have joined the race to secure the signature of the 21-year-old, says TuttoJuve.
Tchouameni was linked with a move to Manchester United over the summer but remained in the Ligue 1, and now rivals Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Juventus ad Real Madrid are keen on the Frenchman.
After the departure of Georginio Wijnaldum ahead of the start of the campaign, it is no surprise that Klopp is keen to bring in another quality midfielder to strengthen his squad.
Monaco have set a price of £42million on the Frenchman, though that is unlikely to price out any of the aforementioned clubs.
