The Reds have signed only Ibrahima Konate this summer and have mainly focused on keeping their impressive squad together, confirming captain Jordan Henderson had signed a new deal on deadline day.
Trent Alexander-Arnold, Fabinho, Alisson Becker, Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson have also committed their futures to Anfield, with Mohamed Salah set to follow.
Yet many feel Jurgen Klopp should have added to his squad this summer, particularly in the midfield and forward areas, with Georginio Wijnaldum, and Xherdan Shaqiri having departed.
Firmino's hamstring injury sustained against Chelsea and the African Cup of Nations in January could mean the German boss will be forced to delve into his attacking alternatives.
Manchester United have recruited Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo this summer, with Chelsea also reinforcing their forward options by signing Romelu Lukaku.
Champions City brought in Jack Grealish also, while Liverpool conversely have the likes of Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi in reserve.
But despite the lack of spending on Merseyside, Simon Jordan has delivered a withering response to fans who have criticised their Boston-based owners.
Jordan, after discovering some disgruntled Liverpool fans had branded their owners 'disgusting' over the lack of activity, said: "If you look at who they look to and who they trust, they don't trust the owners, they've never trusted the finances behind football clubs to some extent and you look at it and say - who do they trust?
"Well they love the manager, okay. What does the manager think about it? Manager doesn't seem to have a problem. 'Oh, ignore him for the moment because it doesn't suit our argument, but FSG are disgusting'.
"Have you ever heard of something so ridiculous? I tell you who are disgusting; the people that ruin football clubs, that don't give a m's about them.
"They could have an argument about the Horlicks that was made of Liverpool by Hicks and Gillett. I mean, come on, really?
"Is that constructive? It is a stupid comment made by stupid people."
"We were debating Henderson's contract and whether he was going to sign it and what was going to be done about it," Jordan added.
"It might just be a case where they have put it out because they have just agreed it. And it might now look - we are joining the dots backwards - and go, 'well that is dreadful because that is the only piece of news coming out of Liverpool on transfer deadline day'.
"I can understand why Liverpool fans are a little bit troubled by that, but I don't think it rears into the territory of 'it is disgusting' and 'FSG out'.
"I mean, hold on a little bit. I am all for fans having very strong views and I am for the fact that a football club survives because of the emotivity of fans and their passion and commitment, it is their football club.
"But come on with the hyperbole; come on with the unnecessary rhetoric that it is disgusting. That gets into the territory of saying 'Shut up!'
"You can't take someone seriously when you've got a playing squad that is probably worth hundreds and hundreds of millions quid. You are a very good side, with very good players and a very good manager.
"It is not disgusting; maybe they didn't want to buy Lukaku, or they don't want a 36-year-old Ronaldo or maybe the players they were looking at doesn't necessarily tick the boxes for them.
"It's not ideal, if your competitors are going to spend 120 million quid, then perhaps you should too."
