The former Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan man made 52 appearances for his country, and played an integral part towards the Vatreni's unlikely run to the 2018 World Cup final.
Vrsaljko set up Ivan Perisic for Croatia's equaliser in the semi-final victory over England, and played in all of the side's games at the finals apart from a dead rubber against Iceland in the group stage.
At club level, after helping Dinamo Zagreb to dominate Croatian football in his early career, Vrsaljko went on to win the Europa League and La Liga during a six-year spell in Madrid.
However, injuries plagued Vrsaljko for much of his career, and a transfer to Olympiacos last year saw him make just three appearances for the Greek giants before he was released.
Having failed to find a club since leaving Piraeus, Vrsaljko has decided to call it a day on a somewhat short but successful career.
