The Man City forward has been brilliant for Pep Guardiola's side this season and is their top scorer in the Premier League with five goals.
He netted a stunning effort in City's 2-1 win over Aston Villa on Wednesday night and has proved a vital member of their team as they look to retain the title.
The Premier League is blessed with numerous Portuguese stars from Cristiano Ronaldo to Bruno Fernandes, Ruben Dias, Joao Cancelo and Diogo Jota.
Darren Bent and Wilshere debated on talkSPORT Drive who was the best from Portugal in English football right now.
Bent said: "I think he (Bernardo) is the first name on the (Man City) team sheet. In terms of natural ability, you might say probably Jack (Grealish), but in terms of importance to this Manchester City side and where he plays, he can play false nine, holding midfielder, right or left.
"Before you talk about his ability on the ball, his work rate off it is what separates him. He puts a shift in every single game.
Wilshere said: "His understanding of every role, he gets it right every time."
Bent added: "And he's been popping up with important goals this year."
When asked where does he rank among the Portuguese players in the Premier League, Wilshere said: "He's the best Portuguese player in the Premier League."
Bent: "I'd say number two behind Ronaldo. Ronaldo is the best Portuguese player."
Wilshere: "No, not now. What about in terms of most effective?
Bent: "I'd still probably have Ronaldo there every day.
Wilshere: "Right now, Bernardo Silva is ahead of Ronaldo. I'm not saying he's a better player than him and done the things he's done.
"If we had a game tomorrow, I'd pick Bernardo."
