Shakira earns staggering amount of money from song slamming ex Gerard Pique

Shakira has enjoyed the last laugh in her war of words with Gerard Pique after earning a huge amount of cash from her 'revenge' song.

The Colombian singer, 45, and Pique, 35, separated last summer and have recently been embroiled in a bitter spat, which is believed to be due to the Barcelona legend's relationship with Clara Chia, 23. The new couple have been together since last October.

Shakira referenced her ex's relationship in her new song called "BZRP Music Sessions Vol 53". Pique has mocked the lyrics with a series of publicity stunts, although Shakira won't be too concerned after the song went viral on YouTube, Spotify and other platforms.

The music video for Shakira's tune has wracked up an astonishing 133 million views - and counting - in just five days on Bizarrap's YouTube channel. Furthermore, it has also been streamed more than 53 million times on Spotify. There are other platforms, too.

As reported by Marca, Shakira's new song has already made her $512,000 (£419,150) from YouTube, $500,000 (£409,330) from Amazon, $360,000 from Spotify (£294,720) and $1.2million (£980,000) from Apple. These figures will only increase as time goes by.

In the tune, Shakira sings: "I'm worth two 22's. You traded a Ferrari for a Twingo. You traded a Rolex for a Casio... A lot of gyms, but work your brain a little bit too."

It's believed those lyrics are directed at Pique, as he has reacted to them through the use of the Kings League. The new football competition - which is popular with social media users and promoted by content creators - was recently established by Pique.

The former Manchester United defender turned up to a Kings League event in a Twingo car and has signed a sponsorship deal with Casio. He announced the latter partnership during an appearance on a live stream of the Kings League - alongside Sergio Aguero.

"We have an agreement with Casio," said Pique. After much laughter, Pique added: "I'm serious... we have reached an agreement with Casio for the Kings [League], yes, because we have many countdowns... this watch is for life, I'm telling you!"

Pique handed out free Casio watches to his guests, while Aguero chanted "Casio, Casio". The Manchester City legend then asked about Shakira's song, which led to more laughter.

Pique's response to Shakira's lyrics hit the headlines and amused fans on social media, but it has also raised huge publicity for Shakira's new tune. The singer's other lyrics include: "No hard feelings babe. I wish you good luck with my so-called replacement. I don't even know what happened, you're acting so weird I don't even recognise you."

Shakira described the break-up as "incredibly difficult" for her and the ex-couple's two children during an interview with Elle last October. She also insisted her music career was put on hold to help Pique be successful at Barcelona. He retired last November.
