The first year for Yoshida in the Bundesliga hasn't been as successful as he would have liked, with Schalke going into Matchday 12 bottom of the table following their 2-1 loss at Hertha Berlin. Former Bochum boss Reis has since been appointed in a bid to turn things around, with his new side having picked up only one league win since their return to the top flight this season. It remains to be seen what approach Reis will take, but he has to contend with a significant injury list given that Ibrahima Cisse, Leo Greiml, Marcin Kaminski, Sepp van den Berg and Rodrigo Zalazar are all unavailable. Swedish attacker Jordan Larsson also missed the first training session Reis took charge of, but the new man in charge will hope that veteran striker Simon Terodde will start scoring again as Schalke seek to snap a five-game losing streak in all competitions.
Freiburg are currently third in the Bundesliga - only two points behind leaders Union Berlin - following their 2-0 home win over Werder Bremen last week. After helping his side to a clean sheet in that game, Germany international Ginter was also part of the Freiburg XI that drew 1-1 with Olympiacos in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday. Christian Streich's home team left it late against the Greeks, but an injury-time Lukas Kübler equaliser maintained Freiburg's unbeaten run in Europe and ensured that they qualified for the last 16 as group winners. Kiliann Sildillia came on as a substitute in midweek but has been ever present in the league this season, so the France youth international is likely to earn another starting berth this weekend. Hungarian attacker Roland Sallai is nearing a return but this game comes too soon.
