Saturday's Scottish Premiership predictions including Celtic vs. Hibernian

sportsmole.co.uk, 18 March 2023, 06:35
Motherwell vs. Rangers (Saturday, 12.30pm)

Motherwell's resurgence under Stuart Kettlewell will be put to the test when they host Rangers in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday lunchtime.

The Well pulled further clear of the relegation zone with a victory over fellow strugglers Ross County last time out, while Rangers battled past second-tier Raith Rovers in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals on Sunday.

We say: Motherwell 0-2 Rangers

Motherwell's assistant manager Stephen Frail insisted that there is "a wee energy and a buzz about the club" after the positive results, but the in-form hosts will surely have their bubble burst by a Rangers side that may not always sparkle but have consistently collected results under Beale.

Aberdeen vs. Hearts (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Aberdeen's next Scottish Premiership fixture on Saturday pits them against a Hearts side still smarting from consecutive defeats to Celtic last week.

The Dons defeated bottom side Dundee United in their last league outing, while Hearts suffered a 3-0 reverse at home to Celtic in the Scottish Cup on Saturday, three days after losing to the same opposition in the league.

We say: Aberdeen 1-2 Hearts

The uptick in form Robson has been able to coax out of Aberdeen during his interim spell is nothing to sniff at, but the team's recent success has exclusively come against opponents they would reasonably be expected to beat; the Dons have not defeated a team in the top half of the Premiership since the World Cup.

If Hearts can shake off the demoralising defeats inflicted by Celtic, they should underline their status as the best of the rest in the Premiership with a win this weekend.

Celtic vs. Hibernian (Saturday, 3.00pm)

High-flying Celtic host Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday buoyed by consecutive victories over the other half of Edinburgh.

Ange Postecoglou's insatiable reigning champions rattled six goals past Hearts across a pair of wins last week, while Hibernian fell to a 4-1 defeat against Rangers last time out.

We say: Celtic 4-0 Hibernian

Celtic were largely imperious across a tight schedule of three games last week, and now with seven days to regroup and gather energy for a final match before the international break, Hibs could be in for a very long afternoon at Parkhead this Saturday.

Dundee Utd vs. St Mirren (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Dundee United and St Mirren return to action after extended breaks with a Scottish Premiership meeting on Saturday afternoon.

When United last took to the field 10 days prior to their upcoming outing, the rock-bottom side earned a 1-1 draw away to Livingston, while St Mirren will play their first match in two weeks after losing 5-1 to Celtic a fortnight ago.

We say: Dundee United 2-1 St Mirren

The last time Goodwin led Dundee United out against one of his former clubs, he watched his new side lose and got hit by a coin from the visiting crowd - this weekend may prove to be a rather different experience if the Tangerines can build upon their point in Livingston and earn the club's first league victory since January against poor travellers St Mirren.

Kilmarnock vs. St Johnstone (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Kilmarnock will be looking to enhance their chances of Scottish Premiership survival when they entertain St Johnstone at Rugby Park on Saturday afternoon.

Having failed to win any of their last four games, the hosts occupy the relegation playoff spot, while the Saints find themselves seven points clear of Killie in eighth place.

We say: Kilmarnock 0-1 St Johnstone

Given that St Johnstone have the third-best away record in the Scottish Premiership, we expect the visitors to notch a narrow victory over Kilmarnock, who are unlikely to improve the division's worst offensive record on Saturday.

Livingston vs. Ross County (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Livingston will continue their pursuit of European football when relegation-threatened Ross County visit the Tony Macaroni Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Undeterred by a four-game winless run, Livi remain just three points outside the top four in the Scottish Premiership table, with Ross County sitting third from bottom - 12 points shy of their hosts.

We say: Livingston 2-0 Ross County

The visit of struggling Ross County provides Livingston with the ideal opportunity to return to winning ways, so we expect the hosts to get back on track with a comfortable victory on Saturday.
