Saturday's Major League Soccer predictions including Cincinnati vs. Nashville

sportsmole.co.uk, 15 July 2023, 05:05
Atlanta vs. Orlando City (Sunday, 12.30am)

Two sides that are separated by a single point in the MLS Eastern Conference will do battle this weekend when Atlanta United play host to Orlando City at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday.

Both sides come into this match following away defeats in midweek, with the hosts losing 2-1 to New England while the visitors suffered a 4-0 drubbing on their visit to America First Field against Real Salt Lake.

We say: Atlanta United 2-1 Orlando City

While there is little to choose between these sides based on their league position this season, Atlanta's home form of late cannot be overlooked. They are unbeaten in their last five, while Orlando have failed to win any of their last three matches on the road and have failed to score in their last two. We do not expect a clean sheet from the hosts, but we do fancy that they will get the win.

Cincinnati vs. Nashville (Sunday, 12.30am)

FC Cincinnati will be looking to widen the gap between themselves and the chasing pack in the MLS Eastern Conference when they take on third-placed Nashville SC at TQL Stadium on Sunday.

The hosts head into this crucial encounter off the back of a much-needed 2-1 win away to the New York Red Bulls in midweek, while the visitors were beaten 2-0 by Philadelphia Union in one of the most eventual matches of the season.

We say: FC Cincinnati 2-0 Nashville SC

With 10 straight home wins and a draw, it is difficult to go against the hosts in this one, especially against a Nashville side that are riding a three-match away losing run and winless in their last four in all competitions. We only see one result here, and that is for Cincinnati to win by at least two goals.

Montreal vs. Charlotte FC (Sunday, 12.30am)

Two teams in the thick of a tight playoff battle in the Eastern Conference of Major League Soccer will square off on Saturday as CF Montreal host Charlotte FC from Saputo Stadium.

Both sides are even with 26 points this season, three behind the Chicago Fire for that final postseason berth after Le CFM lost 3-0 in the Windy City this week, while Charlotte could only manage a 2-2 tie at FC Cincinnati, their fifth successive draw in this competition.

We say: CF Montreal 2-0 Charlotte FC

A leaky Charlotte defensive line could cure Montreal's goalscoring woes, as the Crown have not looked stable at the back all season.

Le CFM are starting to get some of their regulars back from injury and international duty, and the likes of Piette and Herrera should make them a much tougher unit to penetrate when out of possession.

New England vs. DC United (Sunday, 12.30am)

New England Revolution will be hoping to make it two home wins in the space of a week when they host DC United at the Gillette Stadium on Saturday evening.

The hosts are second in the Eastern Conference following a victory against Atlanta United on Wednesday night, while the visitors are currently sitting in eighth place.

We say: New England Revolution 2-0 DC United

New England Revolution have been one of the best teams in the MLS this season, while DC United have struggled to put together a consistent run of form.

As such, we expect the hosts to emerge as comfortable winners, keeping the pressure on top-of-the-table FC Cincinnati.

Philadelphia vs. NY City (Sunday, 12.30am)

In search of a first regular-season victory at Subaru Park in over two years, New York City FC continue their MLS campaign on Saturday when they battle the Philadelphia Union.

The Pigeons are on an eight-match unbeaten run in this competition and coming off a 1-1 draw at the Columbus Crew, while the Union ended a two-match losing run in midweek, defeating Nashville SC 2-0.

We say: Philadelphia Union 2-1 New York City FC

While the Union have been rather inconsistent since the beginning of June, we believe they will sort things out and find their form like we have seen them do many times in the past.

Bakrar should help New York in front of the goal when he arrives, but they will need more than one new face to turn around their road woes this season.

Chicago Fire vs. Toronto (Sunday, 1.30am)

After climbing into a playoff position earlier this week, the Chicago Fire can win a third successive MLS encounter this Saturday when they welcome Toronto to Solider Field.

Chicago took care of CF Montreal with three first-half strikes in a 3-0 victory on Wednesday, while the Reds have now dropped five in a row, falling 1-0 at home last weekend to St Louis City.

We say: Chicago Fire 2-0 Toronto

There are little to no signs of improvement in Toronto as they look out of sorts and, at times, unmotivated when in possession.

Meanwhile, the Fire have tightened up defensively and given that only three points currently separate them in ninth from New York City FC in 13th, they will know that the time is now to try to put some distance between themselves and the clubs chasing them.

Minnesota Utd vs. Los Angeles (Sunday, 1.30am)

After both sides returned to winning ways in midweek, Minnesota United and Los Angeles FC will lock horns at Allianz Field on Sunday.

The hosts head into this encounter six points behind their opponents, while the visitors can move to the top of the Western Conference providing other results go their way.

We say: Minnesota United 1-2 Los Angeles FC

The Black and Gold have continuously found ways to pick themselves back up when in a slump, and we expect them to build on the victory in midweek to make it two wins on the bounce this weekend.

In addition, Minnesota have struggled at home all season, and we expect those struggles to continue this weekend.

St Louis City vs. Inter Miami (Sunday, 1.30am)

Inter Miami will be looking to end an 11-game winless streak in Major League Soccer when they travel to CityPark to take on St Louis City on Sunday.

The hosts have won three of their last four outings after losing to Los Angeles FC in midweek, while the visitors have taken just three points from their last five matches to sit bottom of the Eastern Conference.

We say: St Louis City 2-0 Inter Miami

As Inter have conceded 15 goals in their last seven league matches, their second away win of the MLS season is surely not on the agenda this weekend.

St Louis have won seven of their 11 games at home this season, and we expect them to be too strong for Miami here.

Austin vs. Kansas (Sunday, 2.30am)

Austin FC take on Sporting Kansas City at the Q2 Stadium on Saturday evening, in the latest round of MLS fixtures.

The hosts are sixth in the Western Conference, three points better off than the visitors, who currently occupy 11th place.

We say: Austin FC 2-0 Sporting Kansas City

Austin FC have been very impressive at home in recent weeks, winning their last two matches at the Q2 Stadium 3-0, and we expect them to record a comfortable victory again this Saturday.

Although Wolff's side did lose to Sporting Kansas City back in April, they are three points above their opponents in the table, despite having played two fewer games.

Colorado vs. Houston (Sunday, 2.30am)

Colorado Rapids will be seeking to make it three games unbeaten when they welcome Houston Dynamo to DSG Park on Sunday.

The visitors, meanwhile, are looking to snap a four-game winless streak after suffering their 10th defeat of the season in midweek to Minnesota United.

We say: Colorado Rapids 1-1 Houston Dynamo

Despite coming into this clash in slightly better form, Colorado have a wretched home record, and Houston have a woeful away record, so we can see the two teams cancelling each other out here.

Salt Lake vs. NY Red Bulls (Sunday, 2.30am)

Real Salt Lake are looking to extend their unbeaten run in Major League Soccer to nine games when they welcome New York Red Bulls to America First Field on Sunday.

The visitors, meanwhile, will look to break into the top nine of the Eastern Conference here with a victory after suffering a defeat against FC Cincinnati in midweek.

We say: Real Salt Lake 2-0 New York Red Bulls

With Real Salt Lake in excellent form, it is hard to back against them here, especially given New York's troubles on the road.
