Saturday's Bundesliga predictions including Hoffenheim vs. Bayern Munich

sportsmole.co.uk, 18 May 2024, 05:05
Frankfurt vs. RB Leipzig (Saturday, 2.30pm)

Seeking to guarantee a top-six finish in the Bundesliga, Eintracht Frankfurt welcome RB Leipzig to Deutsche Bank Park for their final league fixture of the 2023-24 season on Saturday afternoon.

The two teams last met in the middle of January when the Eagles claimed a slender 1-0 victory at the Red Bull Arena courtesy of an early first-half goal from Ansgar Knauff.

We say: Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 RB Leipzig

The need for victory, or at least a point, is greater for Frankfurt and their strong home record against Leipzig bodes well ahead of Saturday's contest.

Leipzig will fancy their chances of at least finding the net, especially if in-form Sesko and top scorer Openda link up in attack, but we believe the hosts will have that extra level of motivation and should find a way to end the season on a high by claiming maximum points.

Wolfsburg vs. Mainz (Saturday, 2.30pm)

Wolfsburg have little to play for heading into the final gameweek of the Bundesliga when they host an in-form Mainz 05 side at the Volkswagen Arena on Saturday.

Ralph Hasenhuttl's men were beaten last time out at Bayern Munich, ending hopes of a continental finish, and the 05ers stunned Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund to boost survival hopes and leapfrog Union Berlin in the table.

We say: Wolfsburg 1-1 Mainz 05

With Wolfsburg more or less having nothing to play for besides a mid-table finish, Mainz should claim a point at the Volkswagen Arena to extend their undefeated run to nine and secure next year's Bundesliga participation.

Hoffenheim vs. Bayern (Saturday, 2.30pm)

In what may or may not be Thomas Tuchel's last game as Bayern Munich head coach, the deposed Bundesliga champions bid to seal a second-placed finish on Saturday, when they travel to Hoffenheim for their season finale.

Meanwhile, their hosts are guaranteed to finish in the top eight of the table, and qualification for next season's Champions League is not out of the question either.

We say: Hoffenheim 2-1 Bayern Munich

Bayern's recent successful exploits against Hoffenheim should count for nought on Saturday, as Tuchel will have to put out a makeshift attack and has overseen several dismal defensive displays on the road of late.

As such, the former champions' season seems destined to end on a sour note against Champions League-chasing Hoffenheim, who will then be forced to play the waiting game to learn their European fate.

Werder Bremen vs. VfL Bochum (Saturday, 2.30pm)

Two teams with something substantial to fight for on the final matchday of the 2023-24 Bundesliga campaign will lock horns at Weserstadion, with Werder Bremen welcoming VfL Bochum.

Bremen can still finish eighth in the table, which could bring European football for next season, while Bochum are not completely safe when it comes to the threat of relegation.

We say: Werder Bremen 2-1 VfL Bochum

Bochum have only picked up 10 points from their 16 away league matches this season, and we are expecting Bremen to triumph on Saturday. However, the success is not expected to be enough to see them claim eighth, while Bochum will still fancy their chances of being safe even if they lose here.

Stuttgart vs. Borussia M'bach (Saturday, 2.30pm)

Stuttgart will be bidding to end what has been an excellent Bundesliga campaign on a positive note when they welcome Borussia Monchengladbach to MHPArena on Saturday afternoon.

The home side are third in the table and have qualified for the group stages of next season's Champions League, but a disappointing campaign has left Monchengladbach down in 13th spot.

We say: Stuttgart 2-0 Borussia Monchengladbach

Stuttgart are eyeing a 13th home Bundesliga win of the season on Saturday, and we are fully expecting that to occur, with Monchengladbach struggling on their travels his term, but the result is unlikely to be enough to finish above Bayern in second position.

Heidenheim vs. FC Koln (Saturday, 2.30pm)

European hopefuls Heidenheim will finish their 2023-24 Bundesliga campaign with a contest against relegation-threatened FC Koln on Saturday afternoon.

Heidenheim are ninth in the table, three points behind eighth-placed Freiburg, while Koln sit 17th, and they are battling to avoid automatic relegation on the final matchday of the season.

We say: Heidenheim 2-1 FC Koln

Heidenheim have something to fight for, which is bad news for Koln, and we are finding it difficult to look past a home win here. Koln have drawn eight of their 16 away league games this season, but they could come up short on Saturday afternoon to have their relegation confirmed.

Dortmund vs. Darmstadt (Saturday, 2.30pm)

The Signal Iduna Park hosts a Bundesliga dead-rubber on Saturday, as Borussia Dortmund and doomed SV Darmstadt 98 close out their domestic campaigns.

The Champions League finalists are guaranteed to end the campaign in fifth spot no matter what else transpires, while their visitors are preparing for life back in the second tier.

We say: Borussia Dortmund 5-0 SV Darmstadt 98

Dortmund's progression to the Champions League final has come at a cost in terms of their Bundesliga performance, but Terzic's well-rested men should end the domestic season on the highest of highs.

While Darmstadt have been better on the road this term, the doomed visitors will not go gung-ho for a shock Signal Iduna Park scalp and could end up shipping a few to their esteemed counterparts.

Union Berlin vs. Freiburg (Saturday, 2.30pm)

Union Berlin host Europe-chasing Freiburg at Stadion An der Alten Forsterei on Saturday facing a host of possibilities on the final day of the Bundesliga season.

Union could end up in the relegation spots, retain their playoff place or avoid the drop against Christian Streich's side, who aim to clinch a continental place in the departing manager's final game.

We say: Union Berlin 1-2 Freiburg

It is hard to look beyond a win for Freiburg on Saturday, despite Union's dire need for one. The departing Streich has seen his side thrive on the road in recent weeks, an antithesis of their wretched home form, and they should inflict a fourth straight loss on the Iron Ones on Saturday.

B. Leverkusen vs. Augsburg (Saturday, 2.30pm)

Ninety minutes away from completing an unprecedented unbeaten Bundesliga season, Bayer Leverkusen host Augsburg at the BayArena in Saturday's closing act.

Xabi Alonso's men put in a five-star display against VfL Bochum last weekend to rack up 50 games without defeat, while their visitors can still gatecrash the European party.

We say: Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 Augsburg

Leverkusen may have bigger fish to fry over the next 10 days, but the chance to conclude an entire domestic season unbeaten is one that Alonso's well-rested champions should not pass up on Saturday.

Facing an Augsburg side in the midst of an injury crisis and without a single recognised right-back, Die Werkself should do what they do best and end a phenomenal Bundesliga season with no losses on their record.
