It meant that the fans who had already evaded security did not get close to the 31-year-old as he made his way out of harm's way.

Punches were thrown by members of the security team at one pitch invader as the contest threatened to descend into chaos.

While it remains to be seen what the intentions of the pitch invaders were, security took no risks by acting forcefully.

Egypt were already 2-0 up by the time of the incident while Tyrese Fornah had been sent off earlier in the match.

Salah was uncharacteristically not among the goals for the Pharaohs but still proved a handful.

Trezeguet opened the scoring in the 18th minute before Salah teed up his international teammate after an hour.

Sierra Leone had another player sent off in the 99th minute to end the match with nine players.

And it sees Egypt go top of their World Cup qualifier group with two wins out of two.

They had got their qualifying campaign off to a flyer with a 6-0 win over Djibouti on Thursday.
