Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney attend first Wrexham home match

Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have ended their long wait to see their side in the flesh at home.

But it wasn't the result they wanted, as they couldn't hold on to an early lead against Torquay United.

The Hollywood duo completed their purchase of the Welsh side back in February.

But they had to wait until midweek to witness their first match in person. Unfortunately for them, it was a 3-2 defeat as they basked in the modest surroundings of Maidenhead.

But today the pair took in their first-ever matchday experience at the Racecourse Ground - and didn't have to wait long before seeing their side score.

Phil Parkinson's side went 1-0 up thanks to Harry Lennon's strike after just four minutes. Unfortunately for the hosts it didn't stay that way as Connor Lemonheigh-Evans struck late to seal a point for the visitors.

The day had started full of optimism and there were plenty of cameras on the gantry and phones in the crowd to capture the owners' delight at being in situ.

The owners' charm offensive began pre-match when they were given a warm welcome on the pitch from the home crowd.

Reynolds said before kick-off: "The tradition, the legacy, the history of not only this community but this club is not lost on us. We hold it incredibly dear.

Lennon's early strike gave them a fine platform to build on but they failed to add to their tally and ultimately they would live to regret it.

The stalemate means Parkinson's side drop to 13th - six shy of the play-off spots. Earlier in the week the pair outlined their vision for the club.

Reynolds admitted: "We'd be lying if the dream wasn't Premier League," when asked about what the main ambition is.

"No one has gone from our league all the way up to the Premier League but some clubs have gone from the National League to the Championship," McElhenney said.

"So we're obviously going to try and go above that - maybe this is just my own naivety.

"[But] we clearly have the structure and system potentially to allow us to grow at that scale. Why not dream big?"

Wrexham's next outing is a first-round FA Cup tie away at League Two side Harrogate Town next weekend.
