Ruben Amorim's star man among six Man United players now free to talk to foreign clubs

sportsmole.co.uk, 1 January 2025, 14:08
Six Manchester United players are now free to discuss pre-contracts with foreign clubs, including Amad Diallo, who has been one of the team's standout players since Ruben Amorim's arrival as head coach.

Amad, Harry Maguire, Christian Eriksen, Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelof and Tom Heaton all only have deals with the 20-time English champions until the end of June.

As a result, all six are free to hold talks with foreign clubs over a pre-contract, and addressing Amad's future is a priority for the Red Devils considering his form of late.

The Ivory Coast international has scored five times and registered seven assists in 27 appearances for Man United this term, including two goals and six assists in 17 outings in the Premier League.

Amad scored the winner against Manchester City in the Manchester derby last month, and the 22-year-old is viewed as a vital part of Amorim's plans moving forward, but his future at Old Trafford is far from secure.

Amad among six Man United players out of contract this summer

The Ivorian has been used as a right-sided wing-back and a number 10 since Amorim's arrival, and he is again expected to start Sunday's Premier League clash with Liverpool at Anfield.

Maguire is also a regular for the Red Devils at this moment in time, and he finished the contest against Newcastle United on Monday night with the captain's armband, but the centre-back is another out of contract in June.

There are clauses in both Amad and Maguire's contracts allowing their deals to be extended until June 2026, but the former is expected to soon pen a fresh deal, while the former may settle for a 12-month extension.

Amorim is believed to be keen to keep hold of Maguire, but Lindelof, Eriksen, Evans and Heaton may all move on.

Lindelof has only made nine appearances this season, and the Sweden international is down the pecking order when it comes to the spots in the back three.

Lindelof, Eriksen could leave Man United this month

Eriksen has played 17 times during the 2024-25 campaign and has contributed four goals and three assists, but the experienced midfielder's stay at Old Trafford is unlikely to be extended.

Both Lindelof and Eriksen are being linked with January exits, and a number of clubs are believed to be keeping a close eye on their situations in Manchester, with the winter window now officially open.

The futures of Evans and Heaton are unclear, with the former making 12 appearances during the 2024-25 campaign, having signed another one-year deal with the 20-time English champions last summer.

The 36-year-old has had his fitness problems this term, and there have been suggestions that he could retire from professional football this summer in order to become a coach.

Heaton, meanwhile, remains the number three goalkeeper at Old Trafford; another 12-month extension for the experienced stopper cannot be ruled out, but there have also been suggestions of a potential coaching role for the 38-year-old.
