After failing to live up to expectations following his emergence from La Masia, Riqui Puig parted ways with Barcelona to join MLS side LA Galaxy.
The 22-year-old midfielder joined Barcelona's youth academy back in 2013. After progressing through the youth ranks, he made his first-team debut in a Copa del Rey 4-1 win against Cultural Leonesa at the Camp Nou back in 2018.
Having been considered as one of the most talented Barcelona academy products over the last years, he trained with the first team and was given several opportunities by various coaches including Ronald Koeman and Xavi Hernandez.
However, he never managed to establish himself into the team, getting just a few playing minutes even when the club struggled to make new signings due to financial issues.
Despite his lack of playing time, Puig tried to convince his recent coaches that he deserved a spot in the squad, but he failed to do so. LA Galaxy came knocking this summer and the two parties reached an agreement, with Puig putting pen to paper on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
"We are pleased to welcome Riqui to the LA Galaxy," head coach Greg Vanney said in a statement.
"Riqui is a very technical and well-educated player with incredible experiences for his age. He will fit seamlessly into our group and style of play."

According to several sources including Wikipedia, Forbes & Business Insider, Puig's net worth is estimated at $1.5 million.
Meanwhile, as El Futbolero reports, the former Barcelona midfielder earned 2.1m euros per year at the Blaugrana. Puig will reportedly make as many as $6.5m per year at LA Galaxy, who have made him one of the highest-paid players in the MLS.
"Riqui is a very talented player with a unique profile that brings something different to our squad," said LA Galaxy Technical Director Jovan Kirovski.
