The Blues midfielder, right in front of his best mate Declan Rice, channelled his inner Robin van Persie with a sensational volley at the London Stadium.
Hakim Ziyech played the part of Wayne Rooney with a fabulous, inch-perfect cross-field pass, before Mount casually side-footed a first-time effort past Lukasz Fabianski.
But for ex-Premier League striker Dean Ashton on commentary for talkSPORT, another Dutchman sprung to mind.
Marco van Basten famously scored one of the most iconic goals of all-time for the Netherlands at the 1988 World Cup, netting an astonishing first-time volley on the angle against the Soviet Union.
And Ashton believes there were shades of Van Basten in Mount's superb effort.
"I have to say, what an absolute joy of a goal to see live. Incredible!" Ashton said.
"What a fantastic pass to start from Ziyech. And it's almost Van Basten-esque. The flight of the ball from Ziyech, right across to that right-hand side of the penalty area.
"You're thinking Mount will come onto this with his laces and thrash it across Fabianski. It's so clever. He means this.
"He goes as if he will smash it into the corner, as the ball comes to him, he opens his foot out, sidefoot volley, gives Fabianski the eyes and puts it into that near post which he wasn't expecting.
"Absolute class!"
