Real Madrid legend Raul is being considered for the upcoming vacant managerial role at Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt.
The German club currently sit fourth in the Bundesliga and are on course to qualify for the Champions League next season.
But they are resigned to losing boss Adi Hutter, who has already agreed to join rivals Borussia Monchengladbach.
Now Raul - who is currently the coach of Real Madrid's Castilla side, the de facto reserve side of Los Blancos - has been identified as Hutter's replacement, according to a report from Goal.
Raul took the reins at Castilla in the summer of 2019 and guided the club's Under-19 side to the UEFA Youth League crown in 2020.
And it has been suggested that the 43-year-old is following a similar coaching career path as Zinedine Zidane, who was appointed first-team boss in January 2016 having managed the Castilla side.
Raul has been credited with the development of Madrid youth stars such as Antonio Blanco, Sergio Arribas, Miguel Guttierrez, Victor Chust, and Marvin Park, who have all featured in the first-team squad this campaign.
Frankfurt are said to have already approached Raul and explained their project to him.
But further talks will not be held until after the current campaign - with the German side looking to secure a top four slot and Castilla in the promotion race for a spot in Spain's second tier.
Raul is already familiar with the Bundesliga having spent two years of his playing career at Schalke, where he netted 40 goals across 98 appearances between 2010 and 2012 - helping the club to the Champions League semi-finals in his first season.
Frankfurt are said to have been following his coaching career for the past year, while Schalke also made an approach for the former striker earlier this season - but that move did not materialise.
While Schalke have been relegated this season, Frankfurt would offer the framework for Raul to hold a coaching career at a team competing in European football.
Raul enjoyed a glittering club career for Real Madrid - scoring 323 goals and winning 16 trophies with the club, including six La Liga titles and three Champions League crowns.
