Rashford's comments give Man Utd cause for concern amid Barcelona interest

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has once again been linked with a move to Barcelona and his previous comments about his future may give the Red Devils cause for concern

Marcus Rashford has become an icon at Manchester United for his achievements on and off the pitch in his career to date but he has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford.

Fresh reports from the Spanish press have suggested the England international is once again on Barcelona 's radar, despite the Catalan club's well-documented financial problems.

Rashford has been an instrumental figure in United's first-team squad since his debut in February 2016, going from strength to strength in the opening seasons of his career.

Yet his previous comments on a potential move away from the red half of Manchester may spark cause for concern with the latest reports linking him with a future move to the Camp Nou.

The striker has name-checked the Blaugrana as a club to whom he would be open to joining in the future with La Liga an attractive future destination, should he ever move away from his boyhood club.

Rashford has previously explained to The Guardian, when asked about a future move to Europe: "I would never say no.

"Other than United? I'm a big fan of Real Madrid and Barcelona, because they've always had great players and played attractive football.

"Everybody watches Real Madrid and Barcelona."

Reports in Spain on Saturday once again mention Barca's interest in a future move for the striker.

Of course, the financial problems at the Catalan club mean that any big-money moves for starting players of other major European clubs will not be possible in the short term.

Barca's debt stands at over £1billion and they will not be in a position to spend big money on incoming transfers for the next several transfer windows.

United will be aware however that Rashford's contract at Old Trafford will expire in the summer of 2023 and has only 18 months remaining.

Generally, two years remaining on a long-term contract is viewed as the point in which power in the negotiating process switches away from the club and to the player.

It remains highly unlikely that the striker will move away from United, the club he has always supported and where he has risen to prominence over the first six years of his senior career.

Rashford has made 283 first-team appearances for United to date, with an impressive goal return of 91 in that timeframe - including three goals this campaign, after recovering from shoulder surgery that had ruled him out until October.

The 24-year-old has also found the net 12 times in 46 international appearances for England.
