Rangers left the Signal Iduna Park stunned as they left with a 4-2 first-leg win last week but, with away goals now a thing of the past in European competition, their passage into the next round is far from secured. Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side made one change at the weekend as they drew 1-1 with Dundee United on their domestic return and, despite that result taking the edge off the team's heroics in Germany, there is little reason for Van Bronckhorst to alter things. On-loan Manchester United winger Amad Diallo is an option on the right of midfield, while Aaron Ramsey brings with him a wealth of experience that will be a major benefit to the squad but both January signings are likely to start from the bench at Ibrox Stadium. Meanwhile, former Mainz defender Leon Balogun is a doubt and could again miss out altogether.
After the first-leg loss, Dortmund coach Marco Rose called on his players to shoulder more responsibility in front of goal in the absence of Haaland and they did so emphatically on Matchday 23. Dortmund dismantled Borussia Mönchengladbach 6-0, with Marco Reus scoring twice and laying on three of his teammates' goals. There were also welcome strikes from Donyell Malen and Youssoufa Moukoko as Rose's men responded to last Thursday's defeat in the best manner possible. Gio Reyna's return to the starting lineup was a major boost at kick-off, but the USA international only last 28 minutes before hobbling off in tears. That will have taken the air out of some of Sunday's positivity and Reyna's setback puts even greater significance on Haaland's return from injury. The Norwegian is back in training but was not deemed fit enough to feature in Gladbach at the weekend and the Dortmund top-scorer will be champing at the bit to overturn his side's two-goal deficit.
Match stats
Haaland has scored 27 goals in 25 appearances in UEFA competition, including four in five Europa League qualifiers for former club Salzburg.
After Haaland (23 goals, six assists) and Reus (13 goals, 13 assists), Jude Bellingham is Dortmund's biggest attacking threat this season (five goals, 11 assists).
Reus is Dortmund's record scorer in UEFA competition, though, with 21 goals. Haaland has put away 15 since joining the club.
Reyna, the son of former Rangers midfielder Claudio Reyna, is named after his Dad's ex-teammate, and current Gers boss, Van Bronckhorst. The American could make his Europa League debut.
Dortmund's biggest away win in the Europa League/ UEFA Cup was a 3-0 triumph over Romania's Craiova (6 November 1990). That scoreline would suffice at Ibrox, if Rangers don't score.
Ryan Kent (Freiburg) and Balogun (Hannover, Werder Bremen, Fortuna Düsseldorf, Darmstadt and Mainz), are ex-Bundesliga players.
