Ralf Rangnick picks a side in Man Utd feud between Ronaldo and Greenwood

It remains to be seen if Cristiano Ronaldo and Mason Greenwood can co-exist together at Manchester United.

The pair have locked horns since the Portugal star arrived at the club with the academy graduate's role diminishing this season.

Greenwood was a standout performer for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last term, but he has been on the fringes throughout the current campaign, with Ronaldo being the focal point of United's attack.

The pair have not been able to develop an understanding together on the pitch with a clear lack of synergy.

Ronaldo was supposedly annoyed at Greenwood's tendency to shoot rather than supplying him with a scoring opportunity when they have been paired together this season, which has been few and far between.

The Portugal star then questioned United's younger players before their 5-0 drubbing against Liverpool at Old Trafford, suggesting there is some unrest within the dressing room, particularly among the senior players.

As quoted by DAZN via The Telegraph, Ronaldo said: "I don't mean only in football, this new generation since probably 1995 they are thinking different.

"The life, the football, the struggles, this has to come from inside of you. You have to accept some times that you don't agree with."

Several members of United's squad were born after 1995, including Marcus Rashford, Amad Diallo, Diogo Dalot, Jadon Sancho, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Dean Henderson, Donny van de Beek and Greenwood.

Greenwood has since dropped down the pecking order and that's continued following Ralf Rangnick's arrival after Solskjaer was sacked.

The youngster is 'upset' with his lack of playing time and the fact Ronaldo is always the first name on the teamsheet, according to El Nacional, as a result.

It seems there is friction between the pair as the report also says Greenwood is not happy with the way the five-time Ballon d'Or winner has assumed control of the Man United dressing room in such a short space of time.

Rangnick has appeared to side with Ronaldo too as The Guardian claimed this week that the interim boss sees Greenwood as 'expendable'.

The 63-year-old was full of praise for the "massive talent" following United's Champions League victory over Young Boys but reckons he still has to develop physically to get a place in his starting XI.

He said: "I think today he also showed not only the quality because of that beautiful goal, but also the way that he set up the opportunity for Juan Mata was brilliant.

"He's a massive talent - left foot, right foot, good on the ball. Also the way that he set up the goal for Fred on Sunday, so it's about continuity.

"He has to develop physically but technically for his age he is a great player. My job is to develop him, to make an athlete out of him and if he manages to do that, he can become a regular player for this club."
