Leipzig routed Bochum on Matchday 8, with Werner and Christopher Nkunku both at the double as their partnership in attack continues to blossom. Head coach Marco Rose - who now has two wins and two losses from four games in charge - will be hoping the pair continue to flourish together. Andre Silva has played through the middle in recent weeks, with Werner moving slightly wider. That should mean a straight shootout between Emil Forsberg and Dominik Szoboszlai for the final spot in attack, with Rose now admitting that Nkunku's place is through the centre. Yussuf Poulsen missed the victory over Bochum through illness and could return in some capacity, but Lukas Klosterman, Dani Olmo and Konrad Laimer remain long-term absentees. Marcel Halstenberg started ahead of David Raum at left-back against Bochum, but the latter should return to the starting line-up for the visit of Celtic.
The away team also won at the weekend and start the third round of fixtures in Group F one point better off than their hosts, following a 1-1 draw with Shakhtar Donetsk last month. Berlin native Mortiz Jenz will relish the trip to his homeland having spent the entirety of his professional career outside of Germany. Meanwhile, Greuther Fürth fans will remember Japan international Yosuke Ideguchi, who joined the club on a season-long loan ahead of the 2018/19 campaign. He scored on his debut for the Cloverleaves, but a cruciate ligament injury halted him in his tracks and Ideguchi has again suffered injury setbacks in Scotland. Ange Postecoglou has an otherwise fully fit squad to choose from.
Match stats
Werner is Leipzig's record goalscorer and his brace against Bochum took him to 101 goals for the club.
Nkunku has scored more Bundesliga goals than any other player this calendar year (19).
Just four players found the back of the net more times than Nkunku (seven) in the Champions League last season, despite Leipzig going out in the groups.
These two sides also met in the 2018/19 Europa League group stage, when Leipzig won 2-0 on home soil and lost 2-1 in Glasgow.
Celtic have never won in Germany (P13: D3, L10) and no Scottish side has tasted a Champions League/European Cup victory on German soil since Rangers beat Vorwärts Berlin in 1961 (P13, D5, L8).
Ideguchi made seven appearances on loan at Greuther, scoring once.
