Preview: PSV Eindhoven vs. FC Volendam - prediction, team news, lineups

sportsmole.co.uk, 29 August 2022, 10:28
PSV Eindhoven will be looking to continue their perfect start to the 2022/23 Eredivisie season when they play host to FC Volendam at the Philips Stadion on Wednesday.

On the other hand, the away side head into this one fresh off the back of their maiden league win of the current campaign last time out.

Match preview

PSV saw off the threat of newly-promoted Excelsior courtesy of an emphatic 6-1 victory at Van Donge & De Roo Stadion on Sunday afternoon.

Xavi Simons and Ibrahim Sangare grabbed two goals apiece, while Cody Gakpo and Joey Veerman were also on target for Ruud Van Nistelrooy's men.

The Rood-witten sit third in the Eredivisie table, a point behind second-place Feyenoord and a further two adrift of league leaders Ajax, albeit with one game in hand.

Their next task sees them face off against an opposing outfit currently on a run of 13 straight defeats in this fixture dating back to 1995.

Off the back of a disappointing defeat in their last home outing, Wednesday's hosts set out to return to winning ways on their own patch and move top of the league.

FC Volendam got their season up and running at the third time of asking following a narrow 1-0 victory over FC Twente at the Kras Stadion on Sunday.

Wim Jonk's men held on for their dear lives for major parts of the game before delivering a sucker punch through Lequincio Zeefuik in the 83rd minute.

As a result, Het Andere Oranje have moved up to 11th place in the league standings and are now just a single point away from the top half.

Aiming to improve their woeful away record of late which has seen them win just one of the last 10 games on the road, Wednesday's visitors have it all to do as they take on a more illustrious opponent.
