Heerenveen have made a steady start to the 2023-24 league season and come into this match following a 3-1 win over Vitesse before we headed into the international break a couple of weeks ago.

The Super Frisians were given a brief scare in that match after the bottom club opened the scoring inside the first five minutes, but goals from Pelle van Amersfoort, Anas Tahiri and Ion Nicolaescu saw their side to their fourth win of the campaign.

Danny Buijs's side were completely dominant from the first whistle and had put the game to bed fairly early, with Kaj Sierhuis scoring his side's fourth goal of the afternoon five minutes before the half-time interval.

That result was a significant one for Fortuna, as it was the first time that they took a 4-0 lead in an Eredivisie match since May 1990, when they beat FC Volendam on their home patch.

Despite winning the last encounter against this opponent 2-0 last season, Fortunezen have lost on their last two visits to Abe Lenstra Stadion and are the underdogs in this one, according to the bookmakers.
