sportsmole.co.uk, 24 November 2023, 17:02
Arsenal Women will have the chance to claim an eighth consecutive vicotry in all competitions when they play host to West Ham United Women on Sunday.

The Gunners currently occupy second place in the Women's Super League table, while the Hammers are languishing in 11th position after collecting just four points from seven matches.

Match preview

Arsenal head into the weekend in red-hot form after putting together a seven-game win since playing out a 2-2 draw with Manchester United on October 6.

In the last seven days, Arsenal have continued their impressive run of results with victories over Brighton & Hove Albion and Southampton in the WSL and League Cup respectively.

Goals from Stina Blacktenius, Caitlin Foord and Frida Maanum guided the Gunners to a commanding 3-0 win over the Seagulls, ensuring they finished matchday seven in second place and three points behind leaders Chelsea.

Arsenal were then forced to come from behind in their midweek fixture against Championship side Southampton, with Maanum equalising in the 59th minute, before Amanda Ilestedt scored a stoppage-time winner.

Having scored at least two goals in each of their last eight matches, Arsenal will be looking to showcase their firepower against a West Ham side that has the third-worst defensive record in the WSL.

West Ham head into the weekend off the back of a poor run of results after losing five of their last six matches across all competitions (D1).

The Hammers claimed their most recent win over Charlton Athletic in the League Cup on October 11, before they went on to round off the month with a defeat to Chelsea and a draw against Liverpool.

Unfortunately for Rehanne Skinner's side, they have lost four consecutive matches since the start of October, beginning with defeats against Bristol City and Manchester United.

They looked set to avoid another loss last weekend when Lisa Evans netted an 80th-minute equaliser against Aston Villa to level the scoreline at 2-2, but a stoppage-time winner from Rachel Daly saw the Villans leave the Chigwell Construction Stadium with all three points.

More disappointment followed in midweek as the Hammers lost 3-1 to Brighton & Hove Albion in the League Cup, which means West Ham have now conceded at last three goals in each of their last four matches, highlighting a key area for improvement if they are to enjoy an upturn in fortunes.

As for the visitors, Emma Snerle is a long-term absentee, while Honoka Hayashi is a doubt after missing the last two matches.

After coming off the bench to score against Aston Villa, Evans could come into the starting lineup for Sunday's away trip.

Having scored three league goals this season, Japan international Riko Ueki will be one of West Ham's main attacking threats.
