The international player, who is in his late 20s, was detained at a north London address in the early hours of Monday morning.
Scotland Yard confirmed the footballer, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is currently in custody.
He is being interviewed by police over an alleged attack, which is said to have taken place in June.
