Premier League GW15 predictions: Liverpool to win Merseyside derby, Tottenham vs. Chelsea to end in a draw

sportsmole.co.uk, 6 December 2024, 18:30
Premier League action continues this weekend, with the title race in England's top flight shaping up nicely after the midweek results.

Liverpool's dropped points against Newcastle United was positive news for the teams behind them, but the Reds still have a seven-point lead over both second-placed Chelsea and third-placed Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table, while champions Manchester City are nine points off the summit despite returning to winning ways against Nottingham Forest.

Manchester United will be bidding to bounce back from their 2-0 defeat at Arsenal when they host Forest on Saturday, while Everton will welcome Liverpool in the Merseyside derby.

Man City are in action away to Crystal Palace, while Arsenal will head to Fulham.

There will be another standout match in the capital on Sunday afternoon, with Tottenham Hotspur welcoming Chelsea, before the latest round of action concludes on Monday evening, as West Ham United welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers, and there will be major pressure on Hammers boss Julen Lopetegui to deliver a result.

Another Premier League gameweek means another Sports Mole prediction competition, and this week, we are facing off against Harrison Baker, who is an Aston Villa supporter, from UK dance duo IN PARALLEL.

Read on to discover Harrison's and our predictions for gameweek 15, as well as finding out the results of our head-to-head with James Mellen - guitar and vocals for post-pop punks band My First Time - from the midweek fixtures.

Everton vs. Liverpool

Saturday, 12.30pm

Harrison: Everton 0-2 Liverpool

Sports Mole: Everton 0-2 Liverpool

Everton's huge win in midweek will make the pre-match atmosphere more positive and optimistic, but their record against Liverpool speaks for itself, with just six wins in 54.

Even when Liverpool were not the well-oiled machine they are now, they would still often get the better of the neighbours, and despite a minor blip on Wednesday, they are still clear favourites for good reason here.

Aston Villa vs. Southampton

Saturday, 3pm

Harrison: Aston Villa 2-1 Southampton

Sports Mole: Aston Villa 2-0 Southampton

Looking less like a pale shadow of their former selves, Aston Villa seemed more vibrant in midweek, so they can kick on and secure back-to-back wins in the Premier League.

Southampton's string of absences have only served to increase their misery, and they are set to return south empty-handed.

Brentford vs. Newcastle

Saturday, 3pm

Harrison: Brentford 1-1 Newcastle

Sports Mole: Brentford 2-2 Newcastle

No sheets should be clean at a ground renowned for absorbing affairs, but while Brentford have been finding the net for fun on home soil all season long, their defending still leaves more questions than answers.

Also coming up against a Newcastle side who have been their Premier League kryptonite for the past three years, the Bees may have to settle for just the one point at the conclusion of another multiple-goal classic.

Crystal Palace vs. Man City

Saturday, 3pm

Harrison: Crystal Palace 1-3 Man City

Sports Mole: Crystal Palace 1-2 Man City

Man City may have kept a clean sheet in midweek, but they still look vulnerable at the back and Crystal Palace will fancy their chances of making the net ripple, as they have scored multiple goals on six occasions against Guardiola's side since his arrival at the club in 2016 - only Tottenham (nine) have done so on more occasions in that period.

However, if the Citizens can reproduce their confident display from midweek and have the likes of De Bruyne pulling the strings from midfield, we can see the visitors coming away from Selhurst Park with maximum points.

Man Utd vs. Nott'm Forest

Saturday, 5.30pm

Harrison: Man Utd 2-1 Nott'm Forest

Sports Mole: Man Utd 2-0 Nott'm Forest

Both teams will be keen to make a swift return to winning ways following their midweek losses, particularly Man United on home soil as they can ill-afford to fall further behind in the race for the top four.

Forest have the attackers at their disposal to cause Man United problems on the counter-attack, but the Red Devils have impressed on home soil in recent weeks and should find a way to come out on top, potentially keeping a clean sheet in the process.

Fulham vs. Arsenal

Sunday, 2pm

Harrison: Fulham 0-2 Arsenal

Sports Mole: Fulham 1-3 Arsenal

Each of Fulham's seven Premier League home matches this season has seen both teams score, and that trend ought to continue in this intriguing derby, as Arsenal can still get caught out defensively and are a little short on personnel in that area.

However, the Gunners should have won by more in midweek, and if all else fails, the visitors can rely on their Jover-inspired corner routines to see off a wildly inconsistent Cottagers team.

Ipswich vs. Bournemouth

Sunday, 2pm

Harrison: Ipswich 0-1 Bournemouth

Sports Mole: Ipswich vs. Bournemouth TBC

Leicester vs. Brighton

Sunday, 2pm

Harrison: Leicester 0-3 Brighton

Sports Mole: Leicester 1-2 Brighton

Despite the comfortable-looking scoreline, Leicester rode their luck at times against West Ham and will not be able to get away with conceding countless shots for a second time this week.

Brighton were arguably the better side at Craven Cottage on Thursday night and should be able to return to winning ways at the home of the Foxes.

Spurs vs. Chelsea

Sunday, 4.30pm

Harrison: Spurs 2-2 Chelsea

Sports Mole: Spurs 1-3 Chelsea

As Tottenham may be working with just one fit centre-back and a day's less rest than their opponents, the home faithful may resign themselves to a repeat of last year's home humbling at the hands of Chelsea.

Postecoglou's men were highly fortunate to only concede once on Bournemouth's turf, but a goal-happy Chelsea should not make the same attacking mistakes the Cherries did at one of their happiest hunting grounds.

West Ham vs. Wolves

Monday, 8pm

Harrison: West Ham 2-1 Wolves

Sports Mole: West Ham vs. Wolves TBC

Harrison Baker Q&A

How did you come to support your club and what are your favourite memories from your time as a fan?

Harrison: I've been a Villa fan ever since I was born, my family have always supported them. Two of my favourite memories are when we went to see Villa vs. Forest in 2018 and my dad jokingly predicted the score to be 5-5. We all laughed and then it actually happened. Another would be seeing us play in the Champions League and win against Bayern Munich and Bologna at home. Just the energy of the club being back at a top level was just incredible.

Who have been your favourite five players for your club?

Harrison; Jack Grealish would definitely have to be up there just watching him come from the academy and become one of our best players we've had. I also loved watching Ashley Young and Gabby Agbonlahor when I was younger. Then obviously I can't have a top five without Emi Martinez and Ollie Watkins after last season and getting into the Champions League.

What's going on with the band at the moment?

Harrison: We've just put out our first single (NOW IT'S GONE) as a duo and the reception has been crazy! We've had so much love from radio and so many people on social media and streaming services. It's early on for the project but we're just so excited to see how far we can go with it. Getting number one on the UK Garage charts for our first single was obviously such a great feeling too so we just can't wait for our live shows next year and some really cool collaborations we've got coming.
