Possible promotion and relegations in Championship, League One and League Two

We're fast approaching the end of the season in the Championship, League One and League Two.

And there is plenty to play for at both ends of the table. In the Championship, Fulham and Bournemouth currently occupy the automatic promotion spots with a clutch of sides chasing a play-off spot.

Millwall, down in 10th spot, are just six points off sixth-placed Sheffield United ahead of Saturday's fixtures. In League One, the promotion picture is much tighter whilst trying to predict who will finish in the play-off spots in League Two is anyone's guess. Here, we look at the promotions and relegations that could occur across the three divisions this weekend.

Championship

Fulham have been shoe-ins for an immediate promotion back to the top flight for most of the season thanks to outstanding form.

Goal machine Aleksandar Mitrovic has been a large part of that, with a whopping 38 goals. There is a chance that promotion back to the Premier League could be clinched this weekend. For that to happen Fulham need to beat Coventry City on Sunday. Before that though they need Nottingham Forest, who have played only 38 games, to lose at home to Birmingham City on Saturday.

If that happens and Marco Silva's side seal three points against Coventry they will be confirmed as promoted. At the bottom nothing can be sorted this weekend although Reading can take a huge step towards safety with a win at home to Cardiff City.

The bottom three - Barnsley, Derby and Peterborough - are all away from home on Saturday.

League One

The promotion picture at the top of League One is heavily congested. Just six points separate leaders Wigan and fourth-placed Plymouth whilst the scramble for play-off places is even harder to call.

You can include as low down as Portsmouth, who despite being 12 points shy of sixth place, still have two crucial games in hand. But Saturday's results could well delete them from the conversation unless they take maximum points against Cheltenham. At the other end of the table Crewe could have their relegation to the fourth tier confirmed this weekend.

If Alexandra lose away at second-bottom Doncaster Rovers they will be down, regardless of what happens elsewhere. A draw would only keep them alive if Fleetwood and Morecambe lose. A win for both the aforementioned sides would send Crewe down regardless of their result at Doncaster. As for Rovers, they cannot be relegated this weekend but will be left needing snookers should they lose. Gary McSheffrey's side are eight points adrift with five games left.

League Two

Forest Green Rovers, who are seven points clear of second-placed Exeter City, can move a step closer to League One with a win at home to Hartlepool.

Unfortunately they cannot rubber-stamp promotion this weekend despite reaching 81 points with a win. Even if they win and the sides occupying fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth spots lose they still will have to wait at least another week.

That is because Mansfield, who are sixth on 66 points, will still have six games left and could theoretically reach 84 points. There could be a relegation confirmed on Saturday however. Scunthorpe United, who have won just four games all season, will be demoted to the National League if they lose at home to Mansfield and both Barrow and Oldham win against Crawley and Port Vale respectively.

The Iron, who have been in the Football League for 72 years, are 13 points adrift with six games left to play.
