Jota has settled in very well since moving to Anfield from Wolves and was in impressive form at the weekend with two goals in Liverpool's 4-0 drubbing of Southampton.
And what's impressed Murphy hugely is that a hamstring injury to Roberto Firmino is barely being talked about, such is Jota's form.
"He just continually scores goals," Murphy told talkSPORT. "I know they've lost Firmino for a while with injury but it's not being talked about because of Jota's form.
"I was a bit shocked when they signed him. I thought he was decent at Wolves but I never saw him as a Liverpool player.
"He's been sensational, he's scored eight in 16 this season which you can't argue with and 21 in 46 since he's been at Liverpool. A brilliant signing.
"I like his energy, I like his attitude, you don't see him moaning or diving around, he just gets on with the job. He can play on the left, right or middle too."
Jota's double has taken his Premier League goal count for the season up to seven, meaning he, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah are the top three scorers in the division this term.
The Portuguese forward was backed to outscore Firmino at Liverpool by talkSPORT's Tony Cascarino but Jota is arguably adding the required stability his Brazilian teammate has done such a fine job at giving to Klopp's Liverpool.
"Diogo is an exceptional player," the Reds boss said after the Saints win.
"He is the perfect signing. He has everything a Liverpool player in this squad needs. He has technical skills, physical skills and he is very smart and can learn the tactical stuff pretty quick.
"He can also play the three positions and has the speed to finish things off. Really good."
"I knew what we were lacking [last season], we were lacking stability," Klopp continued.
"No centre-half for a while and we had to find solutions to that. We were shocked and could not play the football we can.
"Now we have stability. Everyone knows what they have to do.
"Sadio Mane and Mo Salah had the longest pre-season I am pretty sure they had for ages, and that was helpful and we could work on a lot of things. We have got the stability back."
