Leicester City defender Ricardo Pereira suffered a broken leg in the Foxes' League Cup exit to Liverpool mid-week.
Jurgen Klopp's side overcame Brendan Rodgers' men in spectacular fashion, overturning a 3-1 deficit to oust Leicester via a penalty shootout.
However, a ferocious challenge from Reds' youngster Tyler Morton cast an unsavoury shadow in what was an astonishing contest at Anfield.
The 19-year-old midfielder caught Pereira with an out of control challenge which resulted in the Portuguese international's left leg being caught between both of Morton's.
And Rodgers confirmed Pereira is set to miss "six to eight weeks" after he suffered a fractured fibula.

"Ricardo Pereira will be [out for] six to eight weeks," Rodgers said after Leicester's 6-3 away loss to Manchester City.
"That's so frustrating for him with how hard he has worked. "For the referee not to see that, it's a fractured fibula and he's lucky it's not worse."
Morton's challenge was only deemed worthy of a yellow card by referee Andy Madley.
Pereira hobbled off straight after the challenge from the Liverpool youngster.
"Perspectives. You can say I should feel unlucky after coming off in my returning game and part of me is," Pereira wrote in a post on social media platform Instagram.
"But after what could be a season-ending tackle, what could be an ACL, I'm feeling lucky it's none of those even though I'll be out some time.
"Like I say, it's perspective. For some it was just a yellow card."
Shortly after the contest, Rodgers commented on the challenge and stated his dismay at its flimsy repercussions.
However, the youngster's fierce tackle was not the only grievance on Rodgers' mind at the end of the match.
"It was a poor challenge but I thought the referee was poor all night," Rodgers said when asked about Morton's incident during their League Cup exit.
"There were bookings that should have gone in the first half, Madders (James Maddison) is away and if he is away he makes the pass and then we are through into the dangerous position.
"It was Jordan Henderson who was clever and took the foul, but there was no yellow card. In the second half he was given a yellow card for not a great deal. I thought the referee was poor."
Pereira is the latest player to join what is an ever-growing Leicester City injury list.
Rodgers is struggling in the defensive areas in particular as he is also without Jonny Evans, Wesley Fofana, James Justin, and Caglar Soyuncu.
They are also awaiting further news on summer signing Ryan Bertrand, who limped off during their loss to Pep Guardiola's side.
Liverpool travel to the King Power stadium on Tuesday night to face Rodgers' side in the Premier League.
Morton will no doubt be greeted with great hostile and ferocity if he takes to the field against the 2016 Premier League champions.
Morton has been the subject of intense praise since being ingratiated into the Liverpool side by Klopp.
He particularly announced himself on the seen with a performance mature beyond his years in the Reds recent 2-1 away victory against AC Milan in the Champions League.
